Steering column Shaft

My shaft is too short, i want it about 100mm longer if not more, pics below, its from a st165 Celica, iv converted it to rwd and using a subaru rack.

I havnt measured it if you were wondering. shal do so later.

Where is it short? Where you marked it with twink on the intermediate shaft? If that's the case surely there'd be something else from a 185 or something that's longer in the intermediate shaft.
Some rwd toyota's are quite long i.e from what i had lying round in the garage ma45? Does the universal fit the subaru rack?

A mate of mine had a similar problem a few years ago, no welder in Palmy would touch it to extend it because of possible issues with fracturing of the join and then of course the huge safety issue that follows.

We got around it by using grub screws, loctite and adding another peice on, although that failed thankfully when he was almost stationary.

I'm not 100% sure what he found to replace it now but others on here may know such as NILPSI or Dell'Orto

If it was me I would find a solid factory alternative instead of trying to extend the one you have.

Just get a shaft machined up longer to fit into the collapsible section, I think it cost $250 when my mate had the one done for his EH Holden rack conversion. If you want it legal welding a steering shaft is a big no-no, I would talk to your certifier first about any solutions you come up with.

I'd almost work out what length you need for the shaft and visit a wreckers to get some dimensions . Some shafts are interchangeable, scary thing is one *shudders* honda universal fitted one of my column shafts so maybe an option too.

It needs to be about 100 - 150mm longer, so it will fit out of the firewall, would prefer the half with the bearing to be able to be replaced with a longer one. I hadnt thaught about a supra one, i will look into it. I thaught about going to pikapart and seeing what they had.

Im not exactly sure what i need atm as the rack is not fully mounted, is just easier to nut it out when you have a few pieces you can play with.
The subaru shaft has a different spline

If scooby rack has a different spline, why not try a complete scooby column?

Thaught about that, but then it will cause problems at the other end. Would be nice to keep it looking standard inside aswell.
