7mgte turbo upgrade advice

Postby iamawesome » Fri Nov 25, 2011 4:57 pm

Looking at Upgrading my stock supra turbo, i have got a modified ct26 that needs new seals from my gt4 or if I was to upgrade what would be a good option? Not looking for huge power but I have a manifold with a t4 flange on that came with the car so something that fits that would be choice

Depending on your fuel system, and the intended usage for the car, I would consider getting a T3 adapter welded on to the manifold so you can get a more responsive set up.

No point putting a T4 on it if you only have 440cc injectors

Haha if only my budget allowed for a 2j... Hmmm don't really want to change injectors and fuel pump, not too sure on the budget yet i haven't even got the engine back in yet haha. The car only gets used in the weekends really since I have a company van and I'll be taking it to the track eventually

You could buy my 60-trim turbonetics turbo with CT26 exhaust housing then don't have to change a thing! haha

But in all seriousness if your not looking for huge power/hassle/cost why not just get the celica CT rebuilt? with a boost controller 12psi that will keep you happy untill you start racing it more and more

Or use your manifold and get a smaller turbo that wont max out the fuel system and require further modificatons, I cant really comment on upgrades as i dunno about that side of things
+ the cost of getting the turbo on there, oil lines, external wastegate etc

++ for A70 supras at the track, far to few and far between!

How much are you willing to spend? Is it a twin scroll manifold? And how much lag can you live with?

With a T4 twin scroll manifold the world is your oyster IMHO, shame you didn't post this a few days ago - on Black Friday there were some ridiculously cheap deals in the USA on order sites. You could have got a Borg Warner twin scroll turbo for <$700US which would have suited brilliantly.

I have a manifold with an external wastegate on it already that hasn't been used and the turbo from my gt4 has the wastegate welded up, might just get the flange changed and get the turbo redone to use the shit I already have. Guessing A twin scroll means it has the two exhaust ports on it? Then yes it is. The standard turbo keeps hitting boost cut so pretty keen to ditch it when I get the car back

Dont use the CT26 off the GT4, Smaller compressor wheel than the supra, ceramic turbine wheel & smaller turbine housing...
in basic words.. its a downgrade.

a Garrett TA3410 is a good budget turbo, ($1210) but is T3 Flanged
or a off the shelf T04B Komats turbo ($1380) Split pulse T4 Tlanged

Or upgrade your CT26, bolts on no stuffing around.

Not sure why you think changing turbo is going to solve this. Answer is fuel cut defender (kludge) or replace ECU... or turn boost down (boring).
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

The turbo off my gt4 has a to4e wheel wheel with a steel shaft and back it wheel but it's smokey as, dunno how much it will cost to fix though
