I thought biofuel was basically home made diesel substitute , so prob no good in a petrol motor

If your talking E85 or similar,then yes and no.

Will probably make more power with it,
but will require more maintence,
and use more gas.

And if E85 I'd be less worried about what it will do to the internals and more concerned with it eating every piece of plastic/rubber fuel line/fitting. There is a reason certain vehicles are sold as 'E85 suitable'

E10 would be alright, but your fuel economy will still drop. Used it once (by accident because a Gull station all of a sudden switched to E10 one day and I didn't notice until I went to hang the nozzle back up) and noticed that my mpg dropped. Avoid using it completely if you can.

Yes. there is less energy per litre in ethanol than petrol.
But the higher octane may in some cars mean the timing doesn't get retarded and you get better fuel economy. Probably better off sticking to regular 98 to avoid having the ethanol eat your fuel lines and seals.

I used E10 in my Mivec Lancer once and got very average fuel economy, its not leaking out yet though.

They have subvertantly introduced E10 to all fuel in the UK. No such issues with leakage.
My one experience with E30 led me to believe I was consuming more fuel. MPG dropped to 2.11km/l in the Twizel 250. However I was at WOT for longer periods of time. It definately ran cooler and had a less hastled exhaust noise (didn't sound on the edge of detonation, sounded more comfortable).

Most of the cars over there are a lot more modern than here. Maybe they handle the ethanol better than older cars do.
When I was there, it was very uncommon to see anything older than 10 years.

km's to a tank is more or less useless info - too many variables - thats why idiots on trademe use that to try and pass off their V8 Falcon off as "economical"

if you can get us a specific Litres per 100km then thats much better

E10 will do less to fuel lines than the benzine they top up 95 with , us old guys remember when they first introduced 95 unleaded and the benzine did eat fuel lines . only old cars with garden hose fuel lines were affected really

to please the masses, 6.53L/100km. (734km travelled with 48L used)

Going by the fuel guage, 125km per quarter.

And 3rd long trip this month, passed 250km and only 1/4 of a tank down. Thats repeatable to me

Using the Toyota fuel gauge is about as accurate as a butt dyno
