Gizzmo IBC-R setup problems

Postby 7ishNZ » Wed Dec 21, 2011 4:29 pm

My gizzmo doesn't want to display any target boost readings. I follow the manual carefully, set up memory position 1, duty cycle (25) and gain( 5) , go for a drive, see 9.8 psi max while driving. Stop the car then check IBC memory position 1.. it reads 0.0, then 0.0 ( running mode).

Am I doing something wrong?

that is what mine used to do aswell. it also wouldn't remember max boost at the different settings too well either.

Put it in the bin and buy someone Japanese.

Blitz DSBC or Greddy Profec or something, so much easier to use.

I had a Gizzmo Ibc in my old car, they are good controllers but the instructions are incorrect. You basically have to give the solenoid a duty cycle and take it through the gears on boost to see what it pulls, then lock the setting.

This link should help..

^^ true you set a duty cycle, BUT as the OP says it's not displaying the last max boost reached, on each of the pre-sets.

Does it display max boost when you first turn the ignition on?

I actually find the Gizzmo unit in my evo much easier to set than the fiddly Greddy one in my starlet. I guess it just depends on what you are used to..

It doesnt sound like hes doing it correctly, maybe setting the gain instead of duty cycle? I faintly remember 0.0 showing up after also when I initially had probs with mine and it was because I wasnt doing it right.

When you turn ignition on itll show the last setting/boost level it was on before you turned ignition off.

I am thinking that maybe I am not holding a stable boost for long enough to have the unit store it.. is it possible?

I am setting duty cycle then gain, but it still reads 0.0 on all the memory settings.

The engine is in a 600kg lotus 7.. it's pretty hard to hold WOT before the redline comes up in 3rd or 4th gear... maybe the boost isn't stable.

I sold my car a while ago so its all from memory. No, it shouldnt matter if its stable or not. You have to be quick to set the duty cycle once it starts flashing or itll flick back to the main screen. Are you achieving differant boost levels when you change the duty cycle when its flashing?. When in duty cycle mode (Still flashing) it should switch to boost level on the screen as soon as the controller senses 1psi. From memory you have to push the button after you have set duty cycle/boosted to save it and lock it, otherwise itll come up 0.0.

It also pays once you go into duty cycle mode to DECREASE as low as itll go and then work your way up untill you get the boost levels you are after.

I wouldnt worry about gain settings untill you have locked in the boost levels first. Set gain to about half of boost level, too high and itll spike

good luck

I have got it to store a max boost reading by doing the test runs in "open" mode. The instructions clearly say to do it in closed mode.

As someone else said... "the instructions are crap..."

Seems to be working fine now. From what I read, I should be able to run up to about 14 lbs with a stock motor ( with adjustable fuel pressure).

Does this sound right?

Im not sure if you are asking will the ibc control boost upto 14psi? or will a 3SGTE be safe with that boost level?

The IBC in my own car was good as upto 19psi with a 38mm gate. Im not familiar enough with 3sgte's and how much boost they can run safe on factory ecus etc (if your using stock ecu??). Someone else may be able to help if thats what youre asking??

1bar is about the safe limit on a stock Caldina setup IMO. Any more comes at the cost of greatly reduced engine life if you don't retune it.

It is a 3sgte with stock ecu and adjustable fuel pressure. I have a wideband A/F gauge on it..

Nice, one question: how do you provide airflow to the intercooler?

Thanks... it has worked really well, and 450hp/ton is not too much power!
