IMHO, He is one of the best rally drivers of all time. He might have less rally wins than some of the more modern drivers, but back in those days there was less rally's in a Championship Season.

second that. there were also far more competitive cars/drivers. modern sprint rallies with 2 manufacturers and 3-4 guys that are within a few minutes of the leader ......well it sucks, really

exactly, Mitsi, Subaru, Lancia, Toyota, Ford all had competitive cars with good drivers. rallys were 4 days (and had night stages) ahhh those were the days......

All those rally cars are complete restorations by MAT.
I read somewhere that he always kept the cars he drove but I don't see a ST165 anywhere or the ice record holding Bentley

Many people don't realize that TTE provided each driver with a brand-new car for each rally and they were never re-cycled

Winning in NZ

he never won in NZ in the ST165, he won in aussie in 1989 with the ST165
Sainz won here with the ST165 in 1990 and 1991 and with the ST185 in 1992.
He only ever won in NZ once, that being with the Pug 205 in 1986

I also wouldn't go as far to say NEVER recycled, i'm 99% sure, some of the cars were used a few rallys later, i recall on the official entry lists, they would state for instance (auriol's mote carlo car) for the 3rd driver in say rally NZ. Dont think they ever did more than 2 rallies in them though

Don't know where you heard that.
Even just a two minute glance shows that in 1991 Sainz's Monte car was used by Mats Jonson in Finland and then again by Sainz in Spain whilst Shwarz's Australia car was used by him again to win in Spain.
Schwarz's Portugal car was used by Sainz in NZ and by Bates in Australia. And in fact this car is the same used by Sainz in Australia in 1990.
And that's just a quick list with a good many other 'recycles' evident.

It could be said that the number of homologated models needing to be produced in those series determined that more 'fresh' cars were on hand but the numbers which actually saw battle were more determined by logistics, specialist drivers, accident damage and rebuild programmes than how many were parked in the shed.
