i believe the requirement for a cat is based on the engine, if it came with a cat, in theory it needs one for a cert.

Cat is required if the car originally had one AND the new engine did as well, I think there is a cutoff year as well after which it is required. So I'm assuming with the Soarer yes you will need one. Info to confirm will be on the LVVTA site.

Its all about when the car was first registered in new zealand AND when it was made.

As they say its on the website but if its a 90's car registered in the 90's i am pretty sure you are safe.

that being said i have had arguements with wof guys who dont understand the difference between AND and OR :evil:

You are correct, as long as registered in NZ before May 2010 will not require cats. If pre 1990 no problem but post 1990 first registered from May 2010 will require cats if the engine swapped in originally had a cat fitted.

I think in this case the OP's engine is the factory GE so I think no cat will be required.

It will only be a matter of years before LTNZ will implement some new cat laws, and will require them to be fitted to all cars built after circa 96. Luckily there are plenty of high-flow cats for sale these days

Nah, it'll be a pre-registration test to make sure the cat is working on all cars imported/registered after 2015ish, and then they'll make that part of the WOF standard for all cars first reg'd in NZ after that date.

Car is a 1997 and came into NZ in 2007. I will put it though the cert with no cat and see what happens. Worst case I can always get one put in.

BTW, What rear housing is on your turbo, mate? Did you get sent one of the 1.15a/r rears that doesnt fit below the throttle body?

Have you had a chance to put a set of verniers on the wheels to see how big they are?

What ecu are you going to use and have you upgraded the fuel system and HG etc?

I had ordered the T57, as I have an auto, but the turbo that came had a 70mM inducer, didnt mesure the exhaust. It clears the intake pipe to the throttle body.

I have a MAPECU 3 that I am planning on using for tunning. Fuel pump is a walbro 255L and I have 6 flow matched 550cc injectors from several RX7s to install.

Was going to run stock compression and 9psi boost.

According to club na-t 9psi is ok for stock and upto 12 is ok if you have upgraded the fuelling and have a good tune.

As long as you run 98 (or better) 9psi is fine on the stock ecu. Even more if you have a good timing map written for it

Why would they close (Al's)? They did a pretty good job, and their workshop was full of customer's cars.

Now it gives me a good excuse to buy a welding machine and learn how to weld properly....

Did some digging, it's actually been thru 3 owners, each time the same staff there.

Just not making enough money to cover expenses.
