Altezza Intermittent fault

Postby skoty » Mon Feb 27, 2012 8:32 pm

Basically occasionally under full throttle (or close to it) engine cuts out, engine check light comes on and the TRC (traction control system) light begins to flash. When the car is restarted it runs fine again.

Just to point out there is no traction loss when the TRC light comes on and is the light that indicates if the TRC system is off - not the one that indicates the rear wheels have lost traction.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Scott.

do any gauges stop working when the fault occurs? eg rev counter twitches and drops to zero?

intermittently faulty rear abs sensor??? would explain why it thinks the wheel is breaking traction

Yeah possibly, but why would it occur under full throttle only though

Could be several things. Check OBD codes.

Air flow sensor or crank angle sensor. It should throw a code what ever it is.

Yeah without reading the code from the system you will be flying blind so to speak.

Ok so plugged in the diagnostic scan tool and got the fault code P1128 Throttle Control Motor Lock. Is this likely to be that unit itself or something else associated with activating the Throttle Control Motor Lock? Anybody an expert with Toyota electronic faults?

also useful to check the freeze frame data.... might be just dirty throttle body, just clean it with brake clean. worst case would be replace the whole throttle.

Not toyota specific,

but it a common fault for the Engine Check and Traction control light to come on together with dirty throttle bodies.

From what we were toldby the dealer a cleanout of the throttle fixes it,
until it carbons up again.

We did a couple last week at work on holdens.

As it is dies can you put the clutch in and pump the throttle to try keep it alive?

Also cleaning the entire intake not just the throttlebody could be helpful as the breather pipe makes a mess of everything.

How long has it been since your last oil change?

Nah I can't do that. Engine oil changed less than 1000kms ago and is changed every 5000kms.
