Camry vs. Hilux!

yeah the late model luxes i have driven were all pretty nice. the petrol actually goes ok, i dunno how it would be towing a car though. the double cabs are pretty sweet.

thing is the 1KDFTV (as matt mentioned) is so awesome i would feel ripped off with any other spec.

the other thing in the hiluxes favor is the seating position - i guess its why every second aucklander drives an SUV, cos you can see over cars n stuff, look down girls tops next to you at the lights etc.

out of the two I would say Camry - sounds like you would be open road commuting more than you would be towing and the Camry would be far easier to live with doing daily driving duties than a Hilux. The Camry should be able to tow the KP on a light trailer alright - I've towed an RVR on a heavy hire trailer with a Mazda 6 and it did the job surprisingly well.

Though if you had more choice other than Toyota I would be looking at the Mondeo, Optima, Mazda6, Accord Euro, i45 etc.

Just remember as a work vehicle you are taking a huge risk towing the KP on what is likely to be an overloaded towbar. 1200kg braked is pretty low, and 750kg unbraked would be totally inadequate, I would either take the Hilux or find something else to use to tow stuff and take the Camry.

It's only for moving an engineless KP around on a small single axle braked trailer until the car drives again. All I want is to move it between electrical/panel shops etc.

Braked trailer should be sweet then, if the trailer is light then you should be fine.

It is out. I drove one in Palmy last week.

Release is end of Feb AFAIK. But TNZ have a few that are out and about (spotted a couple out driving over the last few weeks)

Oh, the one I drove was 2012 Camry Atara(sp?) Avis rental from Palmy airport, had toyota stickers all over it saying "the new 2012 Camry atara"

That's definately a new Camry! Maybe TNZ have decided to dish out some stock to rental companies. The dealer launch is happening this week in Aussie.

Oh and that model has under specs:
"• Dual exhaust (more power!)"

Push button start is a bit lol (as well as the flappy paddles)

foot operated handbrake also

But the coffee holder are A+ - lots of design thought there - they have folding tabs that hold you cup depending on its size

My last work hilux was a 2007 3.0 turbo diesel xtra cab, loaded up with tools etc it came in at 3100kg
still had plenty of grunt and passing power,

Very stable, coil spring front made for a nicer ride compared to 06 courier,

Have a new colorado now, so floaty and soft feeling compared to the hilux, plenty more in the gogo department thou

Will it be a brand new hilux?
We have had a 2011 hilux as a rental for the last week, its a poverty spec 4wd one.
They have a gay traction control system thats lazy and sluggish, you can turn it off but it automatically re engages at 50kms and stability control thats factory set to super cautious geriatric driver mode because it loves to take over and brake halfway round a corner without warning when far from the handling limits.
Would pay to check out if the 2wd also have it

Hold the traction control button for around 4 or 5sec it turns the traction and stabillity complety off and stays off until you turn the vehicle off than it resets itself
