Do you fill up with fuel, or put $20 in at a time?

Had a small laugh to myself yesterday when filling the Corolla. Guy in an Evo8 putting $20 in (of 98 so not even 10L)

I always put $20 in. But I generally buy a drink or something at the same time - so it's not like I'm at the gas station JUST for the <10L fuel hah

So basically any money you may have saved by the car being more fuel efficient carrying less load, you spend buying their over priced pies and drinks?

Both my cars have 70 litre tanks (camry/supra), and I fill them up to the BRIM once the fuel light comes on. I get 650km per tank from the camry, and well lets just say the supra varies depending on use.

They both take 65 litres give or take, and the main reason I fill right to the brim is that is when you save the most money from having a 20c off coupon. I save roughly $15 per fill doing this.

Also, having a full tank loses far less fuel due to evaporation, and you spend way less of your life stopping at gas stations. Lets be realistic, $20 buys you about 8.5 litres so you need to stop every bloody day to fill up

Currently Im trying to develop a new kind of fuel thats made up entirely of my old farts that I have been farming/capturing for the past decade...BP has expressed interest in buying the idea from me too

Various supermarkets offer them at different times, but typically its Pak n save that do them most often when you spend $200. The other stores tend to only offer them on/around public holiday weekends to try and get all the increased business.

Luckily I have a couple of friends who buy large amounts of stuff from there, and they cant use the coupons quickly enough, so they get passed my way often.

My only complaint is that whilst pak n save use BP fuel, they dont carry the 98, so I have to settle for 95.

Woolworths/countdown give you vouchers for Shell/gull
Pak n save give you vouchers for pak n save fuel

I pretty much never fill up, only usually put enough in as i need. Hardly ever drive the car anyway, so no point.

When i do roadtrips out of town (once or twice a year maybe?) it get's filled up, but never any other time.

I imagine that the factory ecu would be tuned to run on 100RON, so running 95 is quite a drop in octane.

I dont thrash either of my cars on the street, so having marginally less octane isnt an issue. Come track time though...98 only.

Each time I filled up I'd use my AA card to get rewards (means membership is cheaper) and use one of those supermarket fuel coupons to get a few bucks off.
Now it's only fuel discount

I always either put in $40 or a full tank, depends on how close/far it is from payday.

Mind you in the AW a full tank is only 35 litres so I'm always in a gas station.

Its a little AE100 sedan with a 5afe. I don't 'nana' it, I just don't brake for corners . I use to do about 550km per 45l(figured it had a 50litre tank) then one day I was to day I was too far away from a petrol station and managed a bit over 600km. So 600km became the new top up figure!

You save more money out of the discount than the old rewards system if you use a decent amount of gas, I always accumulate (only at Caltex, BP wankers only redeem) in my Starlet as it only takes 30-34 litres and then redeem when I fill up the Demios or my van which take more fuel. Accumulated 24c/L going to Auckland on the weekend.

yeah, running a smart fuel card, with the 6c deal from BP for just swiping card it feels OK at the moment, although I do have 26c sitting waiting for my next fill (bought 2x tyres from Firestone, which helped along nicely, + a couple of feeds for me and my partner at BK in the past 3 weeks)

That's true. I go through maybe 18L of 95 a week - should really pay more attention to these rewards systems. Was just handy being able to use a fuel voucher and make AA membership cheaper

I'll call in and accumulate if I have room for $40, as you get 6c a litre for anything over that, but no more for a bigger amount. I keep topping up like that till I get a decent amount and then run the tank down and use it to buy a full tank. My card is currently sitting with 24c/l on it, and will probably be at 30c when I next fill from empty. Only worth doing it if it's not out of your way though.

i fill up anytime it gets too low. you just know that if you dont fill it all the way the price will go up the next day.
