Quick C52 trans Filler question

Just after confirmation the top filler on the c52 is the 17mm bolt below ( if you are looking from the front of the car) what looks to be a breather?

Bolt is on the 'hump' of the selector levers

Just trying to replace fluid but I normally fill through the side hole - this has seized and the bolt is rounded. (First time in my ownership I am redoing the fluids on this one so it wasn't me lol)

Now seeing as I can't open the side hole - reckon I should fill with the 2.6L as per spec and it should be sweet?

Correct. Take a bit to drain through that hole though, so be patient. Then take a cold chisel, and use it to turn the side filler bolt and buy a replacement from Mark.

Can you get one of the locals to weld a nut on the rounded off bolt for you?

probably not gunna have time before track day to get a nut welded on (I am about to head away for the rest of the weekend and next week is hEkTiK- if I open the top and bottom the oil should flow out as per normal shouldn't it? It is the normal drain hole

that was my plan re cold chisel/weld a nut on

probably fill better through the reverse switch hole.

Was thinking that too but don't want oil going somewhere it shouldnt (slim chance but my luck would be it'd $&#$% something up) - will have a look at it though

this is what I would / have done before , the "top filler" in the pic is a part of the gear change mechanism.

yeh, i always filled mine through reverse switch. shiny calender pages and some tape, make a sweet funnel for the job also

I had a thought that bolt you circled was for the gear change mechanism, of all the C52/56 gearboxes i've stripped (which is 6 and counting) that was the common theme i'd found out. Was certain that helps centralise the mechanism or something along those lines.
Reverse light switch is the best way to go to fill it

If its out of the car, could consider forcing a smaller socket over the bolt. I did this with an imperial impact socket back in the day.

Nothing bet a proper gearbox oil pump for refilling from there in the car. Never tried the other option. The small bottles of castrol oil have a nipple on it.. did this a couple of times. found with the castrol bottle it was easier to fill holding it from underneath the car (ae101) whereas it was easier from the top with the filler pump/gun.

Box is in car still, otherwise yeah would have tried that/tried a 6 face socket rather than 12.

Got back from easter 'holiday' - if climbing a mountain and walking 21kms is a holiday - and I attempted getting to the reverse switch, but the plug end on these is different to the ae92/101/111 boxes - makes it a c**t to get a spanner/socker/anything on. *Edit - its a black plug like in the pic above - but I can't see how to get a 25/26mm spanner onto it while in the car even with moving the cooling pipes

Just going to fill through the 17mm hole with a homemade funnel, gbox assembly pics just say its a 'plug' like the others, pulled it out and its coated in oil so I'm confident it'll be sweet (the internet also tells me it will be ok lol)
