Lith tell Rob to come along to this lunch on Sunday it'll be good to see the SL55 again.

Did he tell you about the drag race him and I had going up the over taking lanes coming out of Taupo???

I think his car is the only car I've come across that has stuck on the back of me accelerating upto over 100+ mph.

I think he might be coming down to the NZHondas dyno day at STM on Saturday, will talk to him about Sunday one way or another though.

Haha no he hasn't mentioned that, but it doesn't surprise me - that thing goes like stink. I'm pretty sure its the quickest bog standard car I've been in, I'd say it'd have given a few people a bit of a hurry up if he took it on the track (not any threat to yours, of course) too - despite the appearance of a big poser convertable the thing is not to be underestimated in any way imho.

Rob will tell you I just through him the keys to mine and said there you go mate go for it he got about 6-8 lap run and bought it back in one piece he loved it.Probably the first time in a decade he's been out on the track in a Supra.

Sorry for the the thread hi-jack to guys I am seriously going to consider this mod though.

I've been giving this mod a lot of thought as well, but I'd really only do it if I also went and ran the turbo's in parallel, or upgraded to steel wheel turbo's.

Very true about the ceramics weakpoint being shock-loaded at higher PSI with the sequential system, the blue cheapskates supra has been running stock jap turbo's at 22psi in parallel since aaages ago if I'm correct.

I think you'd be the perfect candidate for it Coryn... I keep meaning to talk to you about it but forget.

I would really like to make the most of my forged motor eventually so I don't want to spend a lot of money on the twin turbo system if I'm going to ditch it later.

the cheapest way is to make a pipe to the front turbo with a pod, then leave the rear pipe in place, and then run a pipe to join it where it normally goes to the "T" piece above the turbos. So you end up with two pods and twin intakes, with the rear turbo not gaining as much airflow increase as the front one. This is how the USA boys have all done it, and still experienced approx 20hp gains.

Yeah this for me is the key I still want to run the turbo's sequentially.

I don't really want to run more boost 1.3 bar is enough but if I can get some more gains in the mid-range and a little bit more at the top I'd be stoked but its the mid range torque is what I'd be after the most as thats what kicks you out of corners.

This is how I have my boost controller set up for I get that 1.3 bar as soon as both turbo's come on line at 3800rpm and they hold that boost to the 7000 rpm rev cut and with the advent of using SLICKS this gives me the grip to use the loud pedal earlier and earlier so if this mod can give me as described quicker spool I'm all for it.

Just to confirm there, you get full boost at 3800rpm with the stock turbos?

Totally believable, its laggier than I expected to hear. I was making full boost at similar rpm with a GT30R on an RB25...

Today Evan dyno tested a set of pipes that are a virtual equivalent to Kurts "hot Pipes" (the pipes from the turbo outlets that head towards the intercooler.) I had them fabricated ten years ago, but never fitted them. Looking at them i would say they aren't quite as good as Kurt's ones, but almost, as they offer significant improvements in diameter of pipe and radius of curves , and also a much better "merge"- than factory.
Anyway, what we found was that the car gained no more boost (still 18psi) and gained 5 kW (at the hubs).
So the intake pipes gained 16 rwkw and the hot pipes a further 5, for a total of 21kw on this particular car.
Thanks to Evan for his support and research.

The sequential system isn't too good for getting full boost early (as generally the first turbo only gets up to 11psi before the second kicks in, even with a Boost Controller), but it's amazing for getting instant boost, and very good response...

Coryn, I think you should do the twin intake mod too!

I've been wanting to do it for ages, but can't because I have to have the MAF sensor in the intake... Maybe one day when I start earning some decent money I can switch to a MAP-based setup and get twin intakes :D
Cheers,
Brandon

This information is awesome, do you have any pictures of the specific pipes you have been testing on the cars installed you wouldnt mind uploading.

Was great to see these in the flesh yesterday.

Once the hot side piping is powder coated the same colour as the intakes, and the cold air box is constructed, it will look smooth. :)

21kw and less stress on the snails has to be a good things, in any mans language.

Nice and tidy i must say I was wondering about the piping and heat and what not i was actually thinking of heat wrapping the whole lot but the Mod itself looks really tidy.

Cheers for posting the pics I can tell you now I'l be defeinitely doing this mod in the near future.

I am going ahead with this mod have a guy on these forums looking into fabricating my own hot pipes would like to use Blitz style mesh filters and I will probably look for an old RH side headlight to fabricate a new entry for the cold air hitting those twin filters.
