Anyone got access to one of those head lamp high checkers? Latest WOF has come back saying my beams are now to low?

Got a flat wall? Draw a line on it and work to that. The tool is called a beam setter btw

Na, no flat walls at home n I had them set last wof cause they were to high.

You dont want to buy one, they're like $1500+ gst new. Just find a friendly garage and ask them to set them? Wont cost much

depending on where you go for a WOF, lots of places just screw them down without setting them, as they usually only fail them if they are too high.

Last time I did it, I think the wof guy said the high beam should be 100mm higher than the headlight for every metre away.
It was ages ago, but I think those were the measurements.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

doesn't sound right to me.

We set them 0.5 degree down on high beam and 1.5 degrees down for low beam.

Maybe it was 100mm lower every 3 metres.... Meh, it was years ago.

Assuming your beam adjusters work, just tell the WOF guy to set them to where he is happy with... why piss around setting it yourself?

Take it into your local garage and get them to adjust them for you. Cost you $&#$% all (if they even charge you). Or get your WOF man to adjust them or you can do it while it's on the beam setter.

Lots of WOF only places won't even put water in your washers to test them let alone use an actual tool to do anything!

That's pretty slack if they don't adjust them.

We go like this:

Roadtest, drive in the door, check beam and adjust if necessary. Saves the time of a recheck and it means the customer can see the road when they drive in the dark

Everyone who isnt VTNZ/has an inground brake tester? Hell I know of a couple of places who until recently still used Tapley meters

I still use a Tapley meter VTNZ in Palmy have basic tools (screwdrivers, Pliers, Spanners etc) and don't mind adjusting headlights or tightening the odd bolt here and there etc to pass you. It's not really worth their while you coming back for a recheck for something stupid - not like you're paying for it. Any WOF place that won't adjust your headlights is a waste of space - unless your adjusters are broken in which case it's not their problem.
