Alloy mounting radiator questions

Postby mlewis » Mon May 07, 2012 2:22 pm

Looking to find a simple way to mount my alloy radiator to my project ae111 levin, have the radiator and found where to to mount it but looking at peoples ideas on mounting. Also can i use a brand new oil catch can as a over flow bottle, its got an inlet in the side top and a drain in the bottom, also has a small pipe in top where you can fit the breather filter. Any help and ideas is very appreciated

Is it a direct replacement?
I've got one for my ae111 suited for a ae111 and fits with the factory brackets

I've got the radiator already, just need some advice on mounting. its a honda half size style alloy radiator, thinking about finding a honda that had the half size radiator and reusing the mounts on my levin

Dowels on the bottom line up with the mounting holes? Should, move them if they don't.
Get some 3-5mm alloy, cut out a strip ~25mm wide and bend it into a U with a tab to bolt to the car. Glue some conveyor belt rubber (heavy rubber) to the inside of the U, Bolt it on, done.

so i don't have to use the little dowel holes in the top of the radiator? they just seem so dicky to use. there are holes in the bottom of the front bar already to mount brackets on, so alloy plat with a u sounds perfect.

Any advice and ideas of using the catch can as an overflow bottle?

I mounted mine up top like this. The bottoms sit into the existing radiator holes thought.

Here is how I mounted mine

I am sure you could use a catch can as an overflow (I used a $7 drink bottle from mitre 10 mega) but remember the pipe from the radiator must be submerged below the water level .

thanks for the help guys

have used your idea of a alloy strap bend into a L at the end with a piece of rubber super glued on the end to make it snug, atm its only 1 on top one on bottom as the other side of the bottom sits on by middle chassis rail that runs through my engine bay.

will just go to pick a part and find a very small overflow bottle to reuse, prob something from a honey city or similar tinniness lol
