5AFE Oil specs

Had a search on the FAQ and couldn't find anything.

I want to do an oil change on the mrs ae101 trueno. 5afe auto.

What oil do i need? 20/50, 10/30?

Whats the oil capacity when i do an oil change? As in how much do i put back in after draining the sump and changing the filter.

I couldnt find much on google.

On dude said 4.2l.

Never had one, but I imagine it's no different to a 4AFE (cc aside) so should be fine on something 15-40w. I use Castrol GTX in a 4AFE and 4AGE with no problems so far. Unless it has MEGA kms on it or something I imagine 15-40w will suit it too.

As for how much i'd say 3.5L then check dipstick after letting it sit after a quick idle. Then just add more as required. I have never measured it, it's just 'most' of a typical 4L container. That's what I do for above mentioned 4afe/4age. Will always be some left behind so there won't be an exact amount to put back in. 3-3.5 should get you onto the dipstick though.

15w-40 is what Toyota recommends, however you can also use 10w-40 without any issues. I use Valvoline 15w-40 Engine Armour in mine and it has been great. Never uses any oil and it's always only a brownish colour when changed every 10,000km.

It'll take between 3.0 and 3.2 litres of oil with a new filter (less if you use your old filter but not recommended).

I could be wrong here, you don't get enough compression to cause iginiton by spark in a petrol engine.

Most diesel oils are petrol rated also. Just look for the API standard marking . Will have API CD/SG or whatever standard the oils meet somewhere on the bottle.

CD = Compression Ignition (Diesel) standard revision D
SG = Spark Ignition (Petrol) standards revision G

I remember when 30/40 was virtually the only engine oil available, and now theres literally hundreds, so its no wonder it confuses most motorists

BITOG is the bible for anyone who doesnt understand much about the myriad of different oils on the market these days and I would recommend to everyone who hasnt already done so, to do the 10 page test, as its fun, and really teaches you a lot in a short time frame.

Then you can start buying the correct oil for your cars, and learn a huge amount from the forum, which, for the record, has some very smart cookies in it
