Is a 4AG(T)E better than a 3SGTE?

Marketing what? Toyota had stopped making the 3S by the time the JGTC engines were displayed and specs given out. Not that the parts were available for sale when they were in production anyway. They could have called it a 503e like they had with previous 503e's. I'm curious about what marketing logic stopped them from doing that. Also curious about why the head and block castings are identical to 3SGTE items whereas the 503e was entirely different for the 10 years prior.

I know they aren't the same 3S you'll find in nana's Caldina but neither is the 1UZ in the MC8R the same as in nana's Celsior or the atlantic spec 4AGE the same as the one in an AE92.

There are many versions of the 503e. Also can you find official Toyota naming of the

I can find official Toyota naming of this engine being a 3SGTE. Can you find any such thing saying it isn't? TRD call it a 3S, It looks like a 3S and I'm inclined to believe them.

You're the one saying it's not a 3S - Prove it.

I like the pic of the 3S on the engine lifter. The only tool you ever need lying right there on the floor:)

Can we please get back on topic? The race stuff is detracting from the OP's intent.

Looking at the Supra 3S pics, that is definitely not 503e. The head looks like Gen3 3S, and block looks like Gen4 3S block.

Was a thread posted here ages ago on the JTCC engines. Might have been about the car that ended up in Ozzie. But im sure it was definitely not a 3s engine. Will search it when at a pc again.

i cant point to a single thing that i recognise on that TRD3SGTE.

however, the WRC Corolla looks very obviously a modified ST205 motor, It actually doesn't look quite as complicated as the WRC ST205 Celica's engine bay.

what have you done roman.

maybe if takumi fujiwara had a 3sgte in his ae86 the 3s would be more popular

4age works, no drama's, more compact, lighter even if its only a small amount like 14kg someone said, thats alot in a small car. plus 4a being more compact the weight is more rearward in rwd car. so that 14kg compounds for more weight out the front. (without going to the effort of firewall mods of course). 3s has its place. but if i wanted a big power 4cylinder i'd use a 2rz or 3rz

actually one thing i do recognise is the angle of #1 exhaust runner compared to the rest of them,

I'm not sure about gen 1 & 2 but i remember vividly the st205 motor, #1 exhaust port is wider due to the flow restrictions on the inside, so when creating the manifold #1 tube is cut on an angle to allow that wider port size

the block looks similar aswell

That is definitely Gen3 (ST205) head.

Here are the signs:
Look at the spacing of bolts on the rocker cover.
The original bolt holes for the alternator braket are there.
The unused threaded hole on the #1 exhaust port.
Identical reinforcements casts (correct terminology?).

Not so sure on the block as it is missing dipstick hole, so I assume it is Altezza one.

Here is a random pic of a ST205 engine:

the rocker cover looks quite possibly like a ge?? cover with the lump and the filler port shaved off
