Wanting to run a silver top 4age with a MAP sensor

Postby Mike228 » Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:34 pm

I about to install a silver top into my ae82, how ever I don't really want to run an AFM.

I have the the following:
Silver top engine
Silver top quad's
Silver top loom and ECU
Black top loom and ECU

Can silver top quads be made to fit a blacktop map sensor? or is getting black top quads the only way I can do this?

Thanks

you could use silvertop loom and make patches from AFM -> Map, and a patch from silvertop loom to blacktop ecu + use bt ecu. Google it, its been done before (I was going to do it back in the day)

sell the BT loom and achieve win.

or use the blacktop loom... not sure if vvt plugs etc are the same tho. Might have to swap a few things in between.

unsure if you can trick the silvertop ecu to use map.

But why?

you'll be missing:

- larger quads
- 5 degrees different cams
- higher compression
- larger extractors
- larger ports
- lighter flywheel
so on and so forth.

and will be expecting to improve performance? - I don't think you will....

I've already got the engine, and I'm not worried about a few more kw from a blacktop. Just looking to stick with the after market filter and intake piping I already have, which isn't going to fit a silver top AFM in it.

What intake pipe do you have? Something proper or just a pipe with a pod?

If it's a well known kit it might be worth the hassle, but for a pod I think it will be wasted effort.

It is a Simota Honda intake modified to fit.

I've seen a forum before somewhere detailing how to do this. You start with the silvertop loom, remove a couple of wires from the ST AFM plug and hook them up to a BT map sensor. Run a vacuum hose from the map sensor to the inlet manifold and you're away.

However I'm sure it works but doesn't run quite right, excessively rich from memory. I've just been flicking through forums, it would appear that some people needed to add a piggyback to tune it properly.. depends what ECU you use?

I have these photos, its what I was posting about earlier. I would post them up, but I cannot remember where they are from and they are not my content.

You also need a patch from silvertop ECU loom to Blacktop, if you are intending to use a blacktop ECU as well.
