leak drivers side footwell

Postby Cakky » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:31 pm

Hey guys, drivers side foot-well is really damp in my 89' Corolla GT. None of the edges around it seem to be damp or wet just the floor itself - where do the leaks generally tend to come from?

edit: car has been sitting for about three weeks if that is going to affect anything?

There are factory holes in a-piller under the dash. Looms will enter into the cabin through these holes. Normally there are rubber grommets, so may pay to check those? Otherwise holes in the firewall or even the scuttle panel.

Maybe grab a hose and see if you can recreate water leaking into the cabin. Would also pay to pull the carpet up as well

check the windscreen rubbers and sealant as well

had an old celica with a problem like yours - the rubber and sealant had given up and was letting water in - once re gooped it was dry as a bone

Some times if the grommet in the floor is mis-aligned and you drive through some good surface water, it will find its way up into the cabin. Had it happen in a 2001 corolla and the back foot well had a pond in there :o

make sure its actually water.

My first car had a leaky master cylinder leaking brake fluid down the inside of the firewall!

Ive had/seen a couple of AE9x corollas with similar problems.
In both cases I pulled off the front guard on the side that was leaking and...
they had rusted through at the bottom of the A pillar.

Hopefully your leak isn't due to this!
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
