Remote start delay....

Postby cat007 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:00 pm

Hey all

I've got remote start on my supra - which is great for these cold mornings, as long as I remember to turn the heater on the night before!

It only cranks the engine over for a couple of seconds then stops and if it detects that the engine has started, it won't try again. If it can't detect the engine has started, it'll try up to 8 times.

The problem is that since changing my alternator it thinks that just cranking the engine over the first time round, that it's started, so it doesn't try again. And on cold mornings it takes about 2-3 goes of the remote start for the engine to actually start.

My question is this, is there a simple circuit or tool or device that I can use to delay the notification of the engine starting by 1-2 seconds so the remote start system doesn't get falsely notified that the engine has started?

I would google it but not really sure what I would search for haha.

Maybe something like a simple 555 timer?

what system are you using for remote starting, one of those steal shield alarms? it has been ages since playing with them but can't you hook it up to the oil pressure light instead, of charge light to let it know the enigine is running? might be a bit more reliable, as long as it doesn't crank excessively while engine has started

I honestly can't remember what brand it is. I bought it off trademe a few years ago.

I think the problem I had with running it off the oil pressure light is that circuit is normally closed and I need a normally open circuit.
