The original plan was to use the stock Lada's gearbox and prop shaft but the bellhousing is designed to fit only 200 mm flywheel and clutch. The fiat's engine uses a 215mm clutch and flywheel so had to to sell the lada 4 speed. .

I am using a Fiat 131 5 speed now in the Lada, however the propshaft needs to be shortened as the this gearbox is about 50mm longer then the stock 2105,but the mount is in the same position, I have tried to call around a few places but they want a lot of money to shorten it. I am running a Fiat 131 Late model Motorsport rear end so will marry up with a fiat 131 prop shaft but it is still too long. all up i need 95mm taken off the prop shaft in order for it to fit into the lada. It is currently 82cm long (length with telescopic end fully extended including the yoke 88cm) does anyone know a propshaft which is 72.5cm long (78.5cm including yoke) which can handle 180hp and is light. If anyone knows someone who can shorten it for me and do a very good job it would be most appreciated.

The flywheel is a light weight Fiat 131, crankshaft has been balanced to take into account flywheel weight. I am now wondering if the flywheel is too light. As when i order the flywheel for the lada was to be a race car. The stock wheel was 8.8kg, the one i have is 5.1kg. I am hoping that this will be still ok to drive on the street.

I'm trying to keep the Lada as simple as possible as I have spent too much money on it already. I don't really have the time to engineer a rear disc brake set up as that would mean buying parts from Europe, however based on experience I have always modified with discs. Has anyone worked on other similar modified classic cars? Can Drum brakes on the rear can be made to be safe and perform well? Also Lotus didn't see fit to modifiy them on their version. Drum brakes on the 131 rear end are self enhancement-type, so light pressure gives you pretty strong braking power. The drums on the 131 Motorsport rear end are really oversize for a car that weighs under a ton. I will be running a ALB valve there to control rear braking pressure. And the alloy finned drums they look so good! Am i stupid in not going for disc at the back? Should i go the extra effort and get discs? Please advise.

A good drum setup will be fine for a road car, they lock up better than disc rear ;) ADL or Beatty's might be able to shortened and balance your drive shaft?
5kg will be fine too.
