Meh the 5s lacks oil squirters. I'd probably buy a short block.. There is a revision of the st205 block in 1998, I'd wonder if the thick/thin wall issue is resorected.one would assume so as they wouldn't randomly revise it if there wasn't an issue, , getting a shortblock removes the need to reli on a rebuilder to aside the head work


Additionally brand new short block is cheaper than proper rebuild, as well as you are sure it is not monkeyed up (as usual in NZ).

You can machine in the oil squirters if you really want them. I wouldn't bother. There are two 9 second MR2's in the US that don't have them on their 5S builds.

I'd still want the 10% extra increase in displacement. Quicker spool, more torque, more power everywhere.

Yeah 3k for shortblock. so that plus head rebuild, gasket set, oil pump. would be reasnbale. tho what i want to know is the revision of the 205 block better? toyota don't know, and ive talked to some hlepful people there not the halfwits .hmmmm

I suspect it not only aids in lubrication but the cooling of pistons to. I personally wouldn't leave them out,tho I think we've gone abit off topic here from ecu tunes

they are really only required for long period high output engines ie: race track & rally.
