The only time you ever need to disconnect the ignition to get oil pressure up is after a rebuild as basically everything will be empty of oil. If you're doing it with you change the engine oil as part of a regular service then you're just wasting your time.

Road cars aren't race cars, and even on basic level race cars you simply fill it, start it, and recheck the level.

z432 IS the correct oil filter for the Caldina GTT ST205 Turbo. If you check the Ryco reference guide it is the last line for Toyota Caldina (from memory).

For what it's worth my Caldina temp guage never moves at all once it gets to temperature. I replaced the thermostat last year because it was taking more than 15 minutes to warm up - found the thermostat was stuffed.

my caldina temp gauge has never moved either
from cold, its warm within like 2 mins'ish
never got hot, never fluctuates
as others asked:
have you got antifreeze in it?
did you flush the system with a hose (in both directions)?
is it full / no air locks?

oil filter, use a genuine toyota one (it is the same as the 4AGE BT or ST one)
make sure you check your oil level when the car is cold (just checking you are doing this) to make sure you get a good reading

yes antifreeze in it everytime. yes its full and no air locks bled it for 30mins it never gets hot if anything according to the gauge its getting cold however I have yet to turn the heater on whilst the gauge has dropped. didnt give it a flush but have since removed the thermostat to check its operational and it was. havent been on a trip out of town yet since I put it back in again so not sure if anything has changed

oil has been checked whilst cold and is at the correct level and have not had the light come on apart from that day

when the gauge was sitting right on cold(for a long journey) I got approx 500ks from a tank of gas which I didnt think was too bad I heard that stuffed thermostat usually puts fuel usage through the roof will report back when I do a decent trip again

also I woulda have thought if the car was actually cold it would stop changing into 4th gear because when its cold it will stay in third until it has warmed up a bit more

OK just went for a drive and got it up to operating temp around town. turned the heater on and within about a min the temp had plummeted to about 1/4 on the gauge what do you guys reckon?seems to me like the thermostat is taking too long to close
