Exhaust, Muffler and Cat suggestions for 1JZ-GTE VVTI

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Tue Aug 07, 2012 1:06 pm

I have a 1JZGTE VVTi factory single turbo which has what looks to be the standard exhaust with a stupid droney cannon type thing on the back. It looks to be under 2.5" tube and the end is a 3.5" trumpet which is so droney I was tempted to get the 9" anglegrinder out for some surgery.

I'm looking into options, first thing is do 1JZGTE's actually need 3" exhausts? Since the standard exhaust is just under 2.5" or so and I don't plan on making a power house, maybe up to 180kw to 200kw atw at some stage.

If I remove the Cat and maybe the factory centre mufflers then fit a large rear oval muffler will the standard exhaust flow ok or is it too small?

I will make the exhaust or fit a new muffler myself, will be mild steel.

Also, has any used Magnaflow/Superflow on a inline 6 turbo before? I've used on on my Landcruiser but thats a bit different.

I'd like it to lose the drone, be quiet ish at cruising speed but still have a nice straight 6 howl at full throttle.

Any suggestions or experience would be helpful.

Cheers

I think youre on the right track, with de-cat and de-fart can, and adding in a nice oval muffler at the rear.

No drone, and no unwarranted no police attention is a good thing :)

I have a 2j single with a 3" DP, no cats or resonators, straight 3" pipe all the way to a single oval TRD rear muffler...sounds great and exactly like you want E.G quiet down low, but reminds you what youre driving on WOT.
wak thud gush!
