Need urgent help, Caldina just died

Postby snwtoy » Tue Aug 14, 2012 10:39 am

So I was on my way to work and just driving normally the engine cut out, it was quite low on gas so I thought maybe it had actually run out. Pulled over and got some gull gas, 25 mins later I'm back on my way.

10 kms down the road, it just died again. Luckily I wasn't quite in the motorway. Anyway it turns over and runs for a second then dies again. What could be the problem? Fuel filter? What else on a 3sgte could cause this??

It sounds like you have glad wrap in your tank and the pick up is getting suffocated, we did this to our student at uni years ago, had him stumped.

You havent pissed anyone off have you?

From memory I need to bridge a couple of pins to look for codes, which I'm in no position to do, yep it starts and runs fine, but I need to give it 5-10 mins, almost like it needs to cool a bit, but temp guava, oil, and water are all good

When it cut out, did it die completly or kinda splutter?

Possibly fuel pump.
Maybe bridge B+ and FP with ignition on and see if the sound of fuel flowing in the rail changes.

Ok, so no longer need urgent help as used my state roadside rescue to get car to mechanics.

ps.. 10km max tow for a rescue... what a joke!

Still interested to hear theories on what it might be. Mechanic is a friend, so I can make suggestions, car prob won't be looked at for a day or two.

Is the fuel pump/filter replacement a big job on these?

Filter is easy, just a bit fiddly, just remember to depressurise the system.
Can't recall where pump sits, but can't imagine it being too hard - worst case, drop the tank

I love the fact you were broken down on the side of the road and asked toyspeed before getting roadside rescue.

maybe we should start a breakdown response team for toyotas?
