Need a certain size Brake Disc/Rotor

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:15 pm

Hey guys

Starting to get my A into G and get my ST205 calipers fitted properly on my ST185 Celica, current snag is when I went to talk to the local LVVTA Certifier, he told me that the way I was spacing the disc's was not certifiable (as I am using two spacers, and you can only use one)

So the plan now is to try and find a disc that will suit me. This is where i need abit of help, does anyone have a website that I can search through disc sizes and not specific cars, or does anyone work with a Brake Part Supplier and supply me with a couple options?

These are the dimensions of the disc I need

Diameter - 300-305mm
Height - 50-53mm
Thickness - 32mm
Centrebore - 54mm (doesn't really matter as I will get some locater rings made up to suit)
Stud Pattern - 5x100 (doesn't matter to much as they can be drilled to suit)

Thanks In Advance
Tyler :D

Scroll down past the listings for vehicles and it'll give you all the dimensions for all the DBA rotors. Possibly easier than going exact dimensions if you have a little bit of sizing you can play with.

I believed you have a Supra/Altezza/IS200 disc, 296x32mm, redrilled to 5x100. Not sure if you have hubcentric rings or not. Measure the centre bore, thickness and diameter of the old disc.

If your disc diameter is larger then you'll have to re-space the caliper out which is a major hassle.

UK guys grind a couple of mm off the caliper lug mounting points to remove need for spacer with altezza disc.

what size rims are you using 17's?

something from the subaru range will most likely be what you need, they'll be 30mm thick but thats neither here nor there.

2003 onwards turbo front discs are approx 315mm x 30mm x 50mm 5x100

Exactly what I was looking for :D

Have found a couple different options on the DBA website.

The only thing wrong with the discs I have at the moment is the overall height which sits the disc against the lower ball joint, meaning I would have to use a spacer between the hub and the disc, but then my wheels wouldn't have any way to centre onto the hub, but looks like the Altezza disc might be a good option as it has a lower overall height.

And I may have to grind abit off the calipers, but will see when I get the new discs

So who supplies DBA discs in NZ?

Nope the ST205 disc are to big in diameter (315mm) and need to be milled down about 7mm to fit inside the caliper, and also the overall height is to high (58mm) which causes the disc to contact the lower ball joint, so needs to be a disc with a overall height of about (53mm) which gives you a gap of 2-3mm between the disc and lower ball joint.

The calipers are pretty simple for mounting as the bolt holes are the same but require a small amount of grinding to the caliper mounting points to centre the caliper onto the disc

Give the guy at Znoelli a call

http://www.znoelli.co.nz/

He has a spreadsheet of every rotor he can get - thus you can spin through to find something that will (hopefully) suit. It used to be online but I cant find it in the website

Sorry to hijack your thread Tyler :)

Anyone stumbled across a direct relpacement rotor when doing a twin pot conversion on a AE101 or AE111? to save having to machine SS rotors down.

So ended up getting a set of Znollei Slotted JZA80 2Pot Supra Discs

Diameter - 296mm
Height - 51mm
Thickness - 32mm
Centrebore - 61mm
Stud Pattern - 5x114.5?

So took them into an Engineer to get the stud pattern re-done, but was told that it wouldn't be possible to re-drill them as it wouldn't be safe?

So my next question is, is it possible to re-drill these discs

The white paint is roughly where my stud pattern needs to be drilled, Engineer said there wouldn't be enough meat for it to be safe, which I agreed at the time. But now after i marked the spots on the discs I can't see how the new holes are going to be any less safe as the current holes?

Now im not saying he is wrong, as Im no Engineer :D , and will go and have a chat with him tomorrow morning, but just wondering if anyone in the know can tell me what they think?

Thanks Tyler

Ask a certifier, they will be the one ultimately responsible if it goes wrong.

Nothing wrong with that.

The disc locates on the center bore not the studs.
Even some OEM discs come drilled with multiple patterns!

About you not being able to cert with two spacers, is that a spacer for the disc and spacer for the caliper?

Not allowed both?

Or did you have two spacers for the disk itself somehow...

Screw drilling those out. I'd image it would still be safe, I'd bet you'd be safer getting the original stud holes (professionally) slotted a couple of mm in rather than new holes. Assuming it DOES actually locate on the centre properly.

factory ones of those discs are 10 hole 5x114.3
as long as the hub spigot is correct, slotting the stud holes is fine.

probably a spacer between drive flange and disc, then another between disc and rim
