What do you class as big power, what chassis and what will it be used for? Drag I'm guessing?

20B + GT4x turbo should do it btw. Whatever "it" is.

will put it into something lightweight to be used for drag and track days. I would be happy with 550-600hp. at the same time its going to be used for my tec assignments, so its still got to beable to be done and marked at the same time. so prob will end up with a 1jz or a 2jz because they are easy to get my hands on, but always open to options as all the rebuild parts are free if they are standard or trade price

Might be easier to say what the outline of the project actually is.

Just "getting an engine to make 600hp and throw it in a car" isn't as easy or cheap as you're going to want it to be.

so outline is through my studies i have the choice on my own motor, only condition is i cant do any work in class thats not part of my assignments. Engine will be put into a lightweight prefer rwd vehicle for tack days and some fun drag races, would like it to be legal but not a nessasity. so idea is high hp motor in a lightweight body with tidy work completed to help with my assignments and to also be used

as cheap as possible, will do it in stages to keep it on track, at the moment just focusing on engine choice and the rebuild

Need some details. "Need to build a track car for cheap" doesn't really cover it.

R1 engine in a gokart sounds perfect, but I doubt that will fit with the vague brief...

if im doing anything in class that can be done to my own car i get the parts for free, so instead of rebuilding a polytec motor i rebuild mine, its part of my course costs, anything i have to pay gets brought on trade

use a 1jz, they arent as popular as they should be but they make easy 500-550hp with a gt35r sized turbo and 18pound and all you'd have to do is bit of rebuild maybe headgasket and studs, and they go reasonably cheap on trademe. my 2c

6k wont get you 600hp, unless your course also gives you free ECUs and free tuning

A couple of grand on an ECU/tune, a couple for a decent turbo/manifold, another for wastegate/exhaust etc. There is 5k gone without even rebuilding it, assembling any of the turbo stuff, , fitting the engine into whatever car its going to go on, upgrading the fuel system, supplying/mounting a decent intercooler etc. Letalone the costs of the engine in the first place if you're wanting to start with a 2JZ-GTE. A solid gearbox/flywheel/clutch setup (even cheap) is going to top a grand easily.

That kinda power would need an R box to hold up to drag racing, so theres $2k right off the bat.

yea you'd want to say atleast 10k for mods, im way past 15k for my single conversion and its not even finished yet. things like crank pulley for example adds 500bux and oh wait you need shimless buckets for these cams another 500, lol, just saying things will pop up everywhere and it all adds up way too quickly, but hey, go for it get a motor, rebuild it,, and put it in a car and if you still have money left then start making big power.
