Following on from my other thread about exhausts:
I'm looking into options for a muffler to suit a 1jzgte 3" mild steel exhaust, which I will be making up from scratch so open to suggestions.
Current plan is 3" Sinco downpipe 3" all the way to a big oval rear muffler. I could add a resonator but they don't really appear to quieten it down, more just change the note.
I don't want a droney cannon type, it needs to be quiet-ish at 100kph cruising part trottle but would be nice if it has a nice straight 6 howl at full throttle. Free flowing design.
Must be mild steel so I can weld it myself.
I went to a local Pit Stop to see what they had, one was a 'Fastflow' which is the chambered design (no fibreglass) with many copies (Magnaflow/soundflow/etc) and the other one was an interesting design with three chambers one open chamber in the centre with the other two filed with fibreglass and offset 3" perforated pipes going through each. The perforation design didn't look very good as it just looked like drilled holes rather than actually sticking out into the gas flow like resonators have.
The guy recommended the cheaper Flowfast one but after googling videos of 1JZ's with these mufflers its going to be too loud.
I've used a Fastflow on my Landrcuiser turbo diesel and it works well but not a good comparison since diesels are quiet quite with turbo's.
Fastflow is sub $100
Other 3 chamber design was $170-ish.
Can anyone suggest what sort of muffler they have used and who the supplier was?
Cheers
