I dont think it even references the speedo signal, as I've driven around with a broken speedo cable and had no PS issues.

can we get some confirmation on that? any other ideas on how I can make my steering firm again while at the same time retaining an appropriate amount of power steering? At this stage the SW20 GEN3 body fitted with the '97 SS3 celica engine, gearbox and ECU is causing me quite a bit of grief. Everything is running but there is power loss experienced in lower revs and, shitty unsmooth gear shifting (no crunching, just not fluid motion like it used to be) and the painful loose steering feel which compromises the handling......

Pity you don't have a normal turbo ecu rather than a beams one as then you could buy a plug in link rather than the more expensive option of wire in.

Then again the wire in options probably have more versatility

I believe it does reference the speed signal and tapers the assistance off until there is no PS from about 140km/h, but I'm not sure if that comes from the ECU. In fact when I fitted the Motec to my SW20 I noticed no real difference in behaviour of the PS from stock.
