Is there anyway to get Personalised Plates cheaper?

Group buy, but thats not too much cheaper. Best to look on tradme.

Edit and Yes the first plates I bought were 300 bucks each. I cant see how they justify the price considering all the wack spelling you have to use now to get something decent. Im actually surprised people buy new ones at all.

Monopoly, no competition so they rip everyone off  You can do group buys, even then though the price is sky high.

Scan Trade Me for unwanted gift vouchers, occasionally get a sweet deal if close to expiry and they don't realise you can renew them.

it seems like a pretty limited business model to me.

reckon someone realised they were gonna run out of decent options sooner or later, so jacked the price to milk it as much as possible.

Reckon you're right. I actually thought it was state owned?

Oh well, at least mine ended up being a three letter deal, so it was $599.

Not state owned, it is a state sanctioned monopoly though.

Private-public partnerships are what NZ are fantastic at. Profits stay private, losses go public

eh? you think thats bad, look at ppq.com.au. a full personalised plate where you can choose all 6 digits is ~AUD$2500.

I just checked, they now have 7 digit plates in QLD.. starting from a mere $3295...

Don't they fund around $1m a year of road safety projects from NZTA's share of plate sales?

Get a sticker roughly the same size as a number plate.

Get whatever the hell you want printed on it for about $10.

Put sticker some place on your car.

Win?

Is there a break down of the costs?

Surely someone like Target could find out why they surged n price.

I remember buying my GTXR8D for $499

Why they surged in cost is pretty obvious... inflation, plus less sales due to all the good plates being long gone, but still have marketing/staff overheads to cover from less sales.

I rung them the other day to get my plate ownership details updated (change of address)

I got told they don't do that because people move all the time....ok then.
