Odd brake pedal feel?

Postby TRD_ZERO » Tue Sep 25, 2012 12:06 pm

Car is a ae111 levin with abs.

I've replaced front and rear brake pads and changed the front brake lines. I've bled the brakes on two occasions.

When I come to a dead stop while just about stopped the brake pedal is stiff then suddenly moves down abit more while making a creaking noise and the pedal has an odd feel like metal moving/creaking while moving real slow. The creaking moving noise isn't coming from the pedal directly. It's hard to describe. Like something down the line moves more. This doesn't happen when driving just when braking while rolling to a stop right at the end.

I know my explanation isn't the best but it's tough describing the noise and feel.

All suggestions appreciated.

Go and do 50km/h somewhere with no traffic around and see if you can lock the wheels up with a bit of speed and see if its the same feeling. Just to check if it is actually the ABS actuating

check your ABS sensors... might be loose that there's a speed difference between wheels, making the ABS pump kick in.

Sounds like the ABS is activating when you come to a stop.
Have seen this a few times and is usually one of the sensors not putting out enough signal at low speed,
sensor, tone ring, or air gap.

What pads did you put in it?
as have also seen pads causing problems but not usually that.

I would check the caliper sliders, can get a bit sticky.

Could have something to do with the rings on the cvs as they were non abs cv and I put abs rings on them.

I've put znolli (wrong spelling) pads in the front and bendix in the back.
One of the sliders were seized but got it off and lubed it up.

Had ae92 gtz shafts and ae101 gtz shafts. On the passengers side shaft when knocking the end of the cv off to change the boot the inside of the cv broke on the ae101. So took the cv end off the ae92 one and put the abs rings on the end of it. Also using the ae92 long one with hanger bearing which I put abs rings on.

So it seems my attempt to put the rings on the end of the cv has failed. The abs light did come on at one stage but once I cleared the fault codes it didn't come back on.
