Carbon Fibre! (where to buy a straight flat panel?)

Currently weighing up whether to have the dash panel made from carbon fibre or maybe a carbon fibre vinyl (to at least see how it looks).

Anyone know of any places that can do a 700 x 150 x either 2/3/4mm panel, and know the costs?

Is 2mm thick enough to hold gauges like in this set up:

I have had a look on TM and come across some 3M stuff (guessing is very good quality) and some other generic stuff. Might buy either tomorrow if i can find some where i can eye ball first.

The local signwriter that does a lot of race car stuff had it.
we have also used it on other bits and peices on the MRS etc.

2 layers of carbon either side of foam core. (2mm of solid carbon would be more than $200)
Will lay it up on glass so you get one good side and one rough side (good for gluing mounts and stuff to)

$80, and would be about two weeks before I get a chance to make it.
Let me know if you're keen.

Sounds good! Would it be better to give you the panel and make it to the size i have cut (save wasting the off cuts if you know the size it needs to be?) Will it handle all the gauges in it not being 100% carbon? (I have no idea what it can support )

Adrian you could always have a piece of thin alloy etc in behind the CF for strength if you are worried? I did that with my gauge cluster (made small brackets flush behind the CF to add support)

Chop strand fibreglass behind the carbon fibre for strength IMO. And bag it if you really wanna go the extra mile.

All gravy - Glass is good.. Whats the best way to get this underway?

It measures 700x140 but i think 700x300 would be best so i can do a second one in case i stuff it up
I think 2-3mm think around the edges would be good.

No worries, i'll start grabbing the materials I need as i get time. Just sorta stupidly busy with work atm so making time during the working week is a challenge.

If anybody has a piece of glass about 1100 x 600 that they're willing to donate that'd save me from buying one:)

Finish isn't as good as photo implies, there are a few pinholes and a few defects (most near the edges luckily) that Adrian will have to work around. Next flat panel i make will be done a different way for better result.
