No. I was at Ruapuna on their South Island Tour in 2009 and an SW20 with targa tops spun off to the inside of the track and rolled. It was after that incident that they decided that open cars needed roll protection for safety of participants. They're just being careful.

Believe me, you dont want to know what an armco feels like should you be misfortunate enough to roll over one. Decapitation is a very real threat, and thats not the sort of publicity that would help businesses like P.O.T to grow, and be seen by the public as responsible.
If I recall correctly, P.O.T have a recommended MX5 rollbar expert that they can pass on details for, to ensure your bars meet their standards so maybe get in touch and get the info straight from the horses mouth.
There are other days out there that will mroe than likely let you enter your car without rules on the type of cage, but I would be worried that they would also be lax on other important safety at the same time.
EDIT: just dug this into out of one of their emails...
RULES FOR OPEN CARS
All open cars (I.E. soft top convertibles) must have roll protection.
As this predominately affects MX5’s we contacted Don at Autoway Services who has had a roll bar he considers suitable made up & fitted to his car. Style bars are not acceptable unless braced appropriately.
Please deal with Don direct & if you have another type of open car he will be happy to look at what can be done for it. Ph 07 8475484
If your car has factory fitted roll bars e.g. Boxter, S2000, or built in roll bars e.g. Lotus Elise, there is no need to add anything else.
