Both genuine and is there any price difference?

Ive had good experience with Tial gates

The bigger the gate the better it will allow you to run low boost but Id say 1mm wont make much difference

Only real difference is that the Tial has provisions for water cooling if you want/need it.

Interesting never heard of that. Sounds like a good idea though.

Ive only ever used Turbosmart products. Highly recommend them. The size of the wastegate will greatly depend on what you want the car for i guess.

I don't believe the older Wastegates did, just the newer MV-R/MV-S ones.

Yup only an MV-R/MV-S thing. It's not absolutely necessary tbh but it could stop you melting diaphragms if you're in the habit of being at full boost for long durations I guess. I don't use it on my MV-S.

i dont have any experience with the turbosmart ones but id go for the tial one as ive never had ANY problems with them even after years of abuse, and the best thing is the v-band, no gaskets that can ever blow, easy assembly-disassembly. the water cooling is also a good plus but not necessary unless your guna do endurance or long circuit racing.

i was disappointed with the size of the tial 44mm. Sure the valve was 44mm at its widest point, but the exit hole was smaller (38mm from memory) which was barely a step up from the 38mm gate i was replacing, so chose not to use it. DSR was the firm, i think, and the guy refused to refund me for goods not being as described, and also didn't exchange it for goods to the same value :(
So SPURN Tial and their poxy misleading discriptions!!!!
The turbosmart gates are awesome, and in my opinion, look to be better quality.

While Turbosmart are the better product, beyond the "exhaust port" of the 44mm being smaller than you expected have you actually seen any performance issue with them? They are a very commonly used and relied on wastegate...

The supra chaps in the US have had enough issues with Tial for them to be reffered to as a second rate choice.

Im not saying they are, but I think Im going to go for a turbosmart for my next WG to avoid the potential chinese copy syndrome of Tials that have sadly flooded the markets :(

Ok good to know - wasn't sure if it was just because of the look (sometimes things just work), know quite a few people who have used them on 4s without issue but obviously dynamics change.

Yeah for sure, mate. I hope my post isnt misinterpreted by anyone as stating a fact that Ti-al are sub standard though, as there are far too many poeple running them with success for this to be the case.

I just get scared as soon as I see chinese copies floating around online, so think its safer to stick with a respected brand that (hopefully) hasnt suffered from the attack of the clones.

P.S In saying that though, I do believe TS FPR's/boost tee's etc are possibly being cloned now. I really need to do more hunting to add any new clones to my comprehensive list of fakes on sf.com.au...

I have definitely seen some disturbingly convincing TiAL clones - you can definitely tell when you have the real thing there to compare with though. A car I've done a fair bit of tuning suddenly started free boosting and I had thought up until then it was running a genuine TiAL, ended up removing the wastegate and pulling it apart and found that the seal between the "vacuum" area and the exhaust area had failed and it never ended up with a pressure differential and just stayed closed.

Free boosting is good on pump gas with 11:1 compression, right?

Sure is ;)

Yes the copies are very convincing to anyone whos not aware fakes are on the market. And it alone is a very good reason to only ever buy your important brand name parts from authorised vendors, even if they are $50 more expensive than the guy on ebay who is selling them out of his bedroom, and wont reply to you once the money is in his hands.

Wastegates and fuel pumps... not good areas to try and save a buck hehe

mr ree, you couldnt be more right,, as long as you buy any respectable brand from a genuine store you wont have any problems.
anyone that buy's the 'style' type wastegate's is just asking for their motor to pop one day, hah

Ive been running my Turbosmart 38mm wastegate for 5 years now. Only ever had one problem with it which was an easy fix. The bolts that hold the diaphragm body to the valve body came loose and unwound. They sit under the diaphragm and were holding it up which was holding the valve open. No boost till high rpm lol.
Other than that its been great, even the boost graph from the dyno was very stable and flat.
Will be upgrading to another Turbosmart wastegate for my new turbo but with V band clamps.
