Congrats, I wouldn't worry too much about the indicating at roundabout deal, no one does these days.

Correction, no one in Christchurch does it, much like they don't understand wtf a red light is.

I got marked down for indicating entering a roundabout when going straight through. Think the law had just changed and I was confused or something.

Well done passing. My work mate failed for doing that. Different standards for testers...

I do, even when not required.

It just makes sense to give everybody around you, the maximum amount of information on what you are going to do, at all times.

The tests are a complete joke here. Prove you can drive at 45kph and make a few turns while describing what you are doing...

Nothing about actual competency, or how you would react in an emergency situation (because thats not important, right ;))

I had been driving for nearly 3 years before I sat my restricted as I left home at 16 and had no parents to tell me off for it, only the police occasionally lol.

Anyway, it was a huge shock when I failed on the new restricted. Ended up getting a few driving lessons and realised they look for things most people dont EVER do in usual driving conditions.

One trick is to angle your rear view mirror up slightly. So you need to make more of an effort to look into it, rather then just twitching your eyes toward it. This way they can see your body movement as you check your mirrors.

Check all your side streets as you drive pass them.

check your rear view mirror before you brake, every time.

make sure your car is tidy and smells good.

Keep your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel, and dont rest your left hand on the gearstick comfortably, only touch it when your using it.

Stick your parents pink floyd, pearl jam, or led zepelin album in the tray under your headunit so he doesnt think your a hooligan.

make sure you listen carefully to the testers instructions, and make it clear if you didnt hear what he said. Mine would mumble a lot and get angry if I didnt hear what he said so I had to calmly explain I couldnt quite hear him when I missed a turn etc.

I thought now days it was 9 and 3 for hand position?

Six and waving to the ladies out the window with the other hand is safest 8) All the while reclined right back.

Seat reclined all the way back, left arm on passenger's seat, right hand at 12 o'clock, cap bill perpendicular to face (preferably to the right). Bonus points if head appears to be in the center of vehicle. More bonus points of head is barely visible above dash. Max points if cap bill is perfectly flat. Use spirit level to make sure. Points deducted if car does not bounce around uncontrollably on a perfectly flat road.

My wife is going to resit hers in the next couple of weeks. She has had her restricted so long it just sort of fell off the radar as something that wasnt needed.

Anyway she tried a few months back and failed and has been scared to go again. It seems like there is too much riding on the attitude of the instructor at the time and their judgement as opposed to actual driving skill. The comments from the person last time was that everything was perfect, expect I think you were going 1kmh when you were at the stop sign. She was adamant that she stopped because obviously she was making a point to do so. But the guy said he didnt feel the car do that little backwards/forwards wobble thing when the car comes to a complete stop....that is bullshit to me, if you break smoothly you can come to a stop without doing that!

Random question: they obviously film them now, so does that give you grounds to contest a failed test? Say like what I mentioned earlier with my wife failed as she apparently didnt stop at a stop sign.
