Turbo Oil Feed Restrictor

Postby steroidcontaskie » Fri Oct 26, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi All

I was having a criuse of the Club na-t forums and some people there were saying you should have oil restrictor on the turbo oil feed for a journal bearing turbo.

Is this a good idea? They were saying that it will help the turbo spool faster and stop the turbo seals from leaking, but I always thought you didnt use a restrictor for journal bearing turbos.

I have a -4an feed and I get a bit over 80psi on cold start, turbo is journal bearing.

What do you guys think? Should I just leave it as is or put a restrictor in?

Cheers
Edward

Have a talk to Alltech. They're your best bet.
I was told a restrictor was needed for t04z but they said not to worry. I would believe their word over any random on the net :P

You definitely DO NOT need to run a restrictor on your turbo mate.

Whoever said is will help journal bearing snails spool better is very much the eternal optimist

I get the feeling that some of the guys on club na-t are slightly muppetish. Toyspeed seems much better for considered advice.

Cheers again for the imput

Maybe they have experience and even though they have done something dodgey, it's worked and is still working.

If something dodgey works thats all good! Still run it past some one in the know/industry :)

Plenty of stuff works, the key is if it is going to last long though.

Was it a ball bearing or journal bearing?

And was the turbine housing oil seal worn?

Have always run restrictors on the 4e/5e engines with larger turbos on them. Have had very good reliability with the Nissan based turbos.
