Apexi AFCII in my car..What does it do? + Wherego for dyno?

Postby guiltysky » Thu Nov 08, 2012 1:34 am

So I recently got my hands on a mint low km SW20 GT-S and ended up selling my Gen3 BEAMs one.

The car appears stock standard but I found an Apexi AFC II (air flow converter type II) behind the passenger's seat. It appears to be connected to the car via the rear of the rising centre console.

I had absolutely no ideal what this does. It has a volume dial from -15% to 12% in increments of 3%. Been searching around online and can't find anything conclusive about what this device actually does and what it would mean to play with the settings, currently at 12%.

Also wanting to take it for a dyno and tune to see how many horses it's lost over the years and was wanting to know if anyone had a place to recommend.

thanks in advance

Take it to Soichi at ST hitec he has been in the tuning seen for ages and knows japanese so is good at tuning older pieces such as that. He is also extremely good at what he does.

If not him then WRC developments or torque performance.

I would stick with st hitec tho. Very good rep

i expect it intercepts the AFM signal and gives the ECU a modified value, related to the % values on the dial as a way to trick it into adjusting fuelling.

AFC=air fuel controller.

They are just a cheap option for a bit of tweaking of your factory tune.

Not something I would use, due to the fact it fools the factory ECU to think something else is happening, in order to get less/more fuel.

Which also results in more/less timing - can result in danger.

PS, loving the Japlish on that - none of my Apexi things had some awesome :(

The original badboy fuel controller that's made by Apex'i

Just take it out IMO.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
