4wd hiace transmission

Postby fangsport » Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:43 am

i have the option of buying a LH### 4wd auto , but with dead auto. Current owner has had searches done for replacement unit, but with no luck, and auto shop claimed the trans is totally buggered.

do these share the same trans as either the 4wd Liteace or the 4wd Estima?

could a CR## 4wd Liteace manual box be used with correct bellhousing ?

Having a quick look on toy diy the Estima and Hiace seem to have the same trans. Which surprised me.
Casings have a different part number though. But as you are probably aware that could just mean one bolt is different or it could be a major change.
Either way looks liek something could be done even if you use the Estima trans to rebuild the Hiace one.

you should be able to put inplace an auto from the other larger toyota etc.
when they put a 1uz into the 4wd hilux, they use the 1uz auto, unbolt the tail shaft housing, and bolt it to the 4wd bit. from my understanding, you just have to cut the very end of the 2wd tailshaft to get it to fit, so in theory any auto from a 1uz, 1jz, 1g etc i image would fit. good old toyota tend to keep the same patterns for everything.
or you could manual it?

was hoping someone could shed some light on the manual conversion, especially if it can use the CR39 liteace unit.

looking at toyodiy.co the litace and the hiace both have the same transfer case, so it should just be matter of swapping out the auto with a manual. should be fairly straight forward. youll just need to get linkages for the stick, bell to match, fly etc.
but as i said youll find most autos should fit straight in anyway.
toyota are awesome the way most parts are interchangeable

on a side note to hijack... do many conversions get done in a 4wd hiace to 1UZ? I've seen lots of 2wd ones, but no 4wd... Just wondering what it would take to convert the supercustom to 1UZ once the 1KZ cracks a head like they all do

how did you find a 4wd liteace on that site?? i tried many years surrounding the year of the van i wrecked, but couldn't find the 4wd option.

would prefer manual, as will be towing with it, if i buy.

i couldnt find the cr39, only the cr38, so im assuming must be virtually the same, here show the g/box 2wd and 4wd http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1995_T ... _3301.html
and here is the transfer http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1995_T ... _3609.html as you can see the gasket is 36143 and the hiace http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1995_T ... _3609.html has the same one too

easiest thing to do would be to swap out the auto, most wreckers are giving away a free auto with the 1uz they sell

check it out
all the cars take the same gasket kit for the auto

check this one out
this is the GASKET KIT, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL for a CR38
using the new parts cross-reference all these vehicles use the same kit, so i would image, youll find any of these autos will bolt straight in

There can be differences in the casings between the gear boxes.
So would need to check for that
