Adjustable suspension arms

Postby Stott69 » Mon Jan 14, 2013 8:08 pm

Ive got to change the rear upper A arms on the Aristo cause of inner bush wear. How much of a con is it to have adjustable arms on a mildly lowered street car?

Probably not a bad thing, but they'll require a cert
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Is the wear due to the lowering or the age of the joint? Pretty expensive option to go adjustable due to cert as mentioned.

If its cert material Ill just go tgp or up rated bushes. Think the wear is due to 20 years/250,000km of driving

In that case TGP should be sweet. I thought you may have already replaced them which would mean something else might be needed.

its acutally a grey area, as they are not load bearing the way the laws are written you dont require a cert, however its a common belief out there with wof guys that they need certing.

Read thru lvv and you will see.

Just be sure to first check the play in the balljoint on the upper arms, Scott, as replacing the bushes would suck if you then discovered the BJ was $&#$%.

Are your arms the same as the JZA80, in so much that the BJ's are a piece of the arm, and cant be replaced on their own?

If you read the WoF manual it specifically states a modification must be certified unless it is on the list of items that don't require cert. Adjustable suspension arms aren't on the list.

Or read the VIRM, and ignore the above incorrect advice.

I struggled to find bushes where I done mine and have been told nolothanes squeak after a while.

Whole genuine arms were $200 each at trade cost.

Young guy at King lower Hutt qouted lower than that. The Ozzy boys are looking at group buying super pro bushes, may jump in that.

What price did you get for the arms, Scott? Less than $200 is pretty sharp as I believe they were $280-$300 a couple of years back from R&B

You can use superpro, nolathane, R2, or that purple brand I forget the name of :)
