A340e auto gearbox performance rebuild

Postby steroidcontaskie » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:13 am

Hi all

Background. I have a 2jzge soarer that I have put a turbo on and changed the diff to a Torsen. I was worried about the strength of the auto, so I put a auto from a 1jzgte soarer into it (clutches are slightly different).

Car was on the dyno for tuning and the gear box started to slip in second gear and by the end of the dyno session the tuners couldn't really get it past 4000rpm. Although they did get a couple of higher rev runs done earlier. Power will probably be 300-350 rwhp

I have had a read on the net and people seem to get really mixed results with the stock auto boxes, some handle power and some don't. I would prefer to stay auto if possible, lots of city driving and have 2 options.

1. Get the other 1jzgte trans I have and install that.
2. Get a performance rebuild kit and install that in the orginal trans that came with my car.

Option 1 is easy but I don't know if the trans will die on the dyno again
Option 2 is difficult and I don't really know about rebuild kits, the 2 that I have seen are

Does anyone have any experience with rebuilding a a340e? Or practical experience with one of these rebuild kit?

Cheers
Edward

If you are sticking with Auto, Level Ten website mentions a valve body upgrade kit as well. Consider getting one of these or getting it done. The kits up the line pressues and valve springs to make tighter faster shifts. It means the auto will shift gear with a bang not a whimper but definitely an improvement if you can live with it. Note: my auto experience is not with Toyotas.
