Steering rack spacers

Anyone have experience in installing steering rack spacers for Toyotas? Need more steering angle, I know they're easy as pie on a Nissan, but almost never heard of anyone doing them on a Toyota.

yep, I have one in my AE70, just screws onto one end of the rack, re center the rack after and away laughing. gave about another 1/3of a turn each way.

I see that website says anything pre-85 manual steering, is there anything for the MR2?

The Nissan boys uses a washer to space it out, was thinking if I can get just the washers like them.

I would guess it would work, a mate now makes these and they fit WRXs tooo.

I've put them on GZ20, MA70 and JZX90. Piece of piss, exactly the same as what Nissan boys do. Certain size/thickness washer, slip onto end of rack, re-assemble, enjoy.

I didnt think you can get much more lock out of an SW without the steering going over center at full lock. Offset rack spacers might help that I guess. I had that problem on mine.

If you have the dimensions that'll be fantastic, but oh well.

It shouldn't go over center only adds a few more degrees, but those really needed few degrees.

I managed to find the size for the generic "toyota" spacers.

23mm OD, 14mm ID, 5mm thick.

I guess you have to be careful you don't go too thick if you're going to just use washers - as you're limiting the amount of usable thread.

Looonie didn't you have some proper ones for your *A70 at some point?

Reviving old thread, just in case anyone needs this info. The SW20 rack needs a 22mm OD, 12mm ID washer. I can't fit anything more than 3mm thick each side due to my wheels making sweet love to my inner wheel well, and even if I clear that, the sway bar will follow the same suit after another 1mm or so.

I think this is why they're not as popular with the Toyotas - there's not as much 'spare' thread on the inner rack ends for whatever reason.

Remember too that you won't be able to use the locking tab washers once you fit the spacers, so get the threads nice and clean (brakeclean), some fresh locktite and nip those rascals up good and tight

It would, but I have 8J's up front and it's sitting just right with the fender (None of this "hella flush" shit), so unless I go down in size, or turn it gay by going "stance/fatlace"....
Or maybe I can go for a wheel that has another 5mm offset and hope it's not that noticeable, I can do a test fit I guess since I got a 5mm spacer, just for lulz.
Meanwhile trying to find a place that sells 22mm OD, 12mm ID washers ....................... painful exercise.

Lots of washers that are 22mm OD, most fender washers are that size. Just drill the centre hole out from m8 or m10 to 12mm.

I would get a proper spacer machined up, Washers just seems dodgy.

Ive been running Loonies spacers on my supra for years, works a charm. As mentioned above cleaned the threads up real good, plenty of loctite
tightened them up nice and good and haven't touched them again

I priced it up for machining, it's quite expensive unless we get a group buy going.
