Anyone see my old AE85/86 race car ?

Postby beeker » Fri Mar 29, 2013 7:35 pm

Sold it 3 years ago to a guy that converted it to gravel (back to 14" wheels etc). But he left the country and it was sold again.

Anyone see it?

Thanks for that. Looks like the new onwer is having allot of fun with it. All good.

I'm on the verge myself to suspend targa, and have a go at gravel. However, i'll be starting in something ruff, as i suspect sooner or later it'll end up in a ditch!

I crew for Chris(the current owner) when he Rallly's it.

It finished the Silver Fern with no mechanical failures, Toyota tough!

He has changed a fair whack of bits(mainly front & rear suspension & arms etc & the rear diff) on it since owning it.

Here is some of the in car from the Silver Fern

He looks like a good driver too.

The car was bullet proof for us too. The only 'near failure' was an 'almost failed' on the master electrical fuse box next to the battery, luckily we spotted it in time, but thats a common issue. Otherwise it never let us down. We very much subscibed to keeping it understressed with any mods.

It did of course get a major body freshen up when that dam Monaro ramed us in ~2008 while we were stuck in a ditch (me getting cocky, and running 27th outright over 130 cars on targa).

Looking at the incar, it would make it much easier for the nav if a footpedal was fitted for the intermediate instructions. Makes life a whole lot simpler....

Sure is, bit of an odd style but it works

he still has the ae101 tucked away in the workshop, the motor is away being built from what I gather so i'm sure he is planning on running it again at some stage.

Here is some older photos, and milestones for the car.
The seller i purchased it from built it from two cars, his old AE86 which was rusted, and his wifes old rust free AE85.

Prepurchase pics, ~2005:

First thing i did was change wheels (lime green is not my colour)!

Off to targa, one of many!

Alas, in ~2007 we were rear ended by a monaro after getting stuck in a ditch. Turned the car 180 degrees and pushed it 12 meters throu the air. Luckily we were not inside at the time. It made a real mess to say the least.

So here comes the rebuild.
Evenmanaged to find some brand new parts, including the rear 1/4 panel
While we were there, we added a few extra bits into the cage.
