Didn't realise you were on here

I was parked behind you in the red RX8 before drivers briefing. I think you came along while I was having a chat with Andre? You have a nice car congrats.

Only a newbie on here as other than a Highlander I haven't owned a Toyota before. I am enjoying the comeraderie of the 86 club and STM guys though and have done heaps more track days that I ever did in my S15.

Thanks. Also pretty good considering I'm a VERY average driver. This car is great fun on the track although the higher HP cars fly past on the longer straights. Track 2 at Taupo was perfect for it with the twisty turny layout and really shorts straights.

And, yep, drove home like a peach afterwards.

Exactly love it drove home without a hitch afterwards.

Thats the factory for you let them spend the millions and make the mistakes and come up with the package that works.

Hard to miss those brakes aswell.

Money can buy you reliability, I agree.

But my comment still stands - money can't buy you skill.
There are plenty of good drivers in cheap Type-R's just as there are plenty of bad drivers in expensive Porsches - both will go around a track all day without breaking a sweat. Just because a car is modified doesn't mean it is unreliable. That's a bold generalisation to make.

Not in the 12 years I've been going to the track.

More times than not its the guy that has tried to re-invent what the factory has put alot of resources into that fails the most.

Bad drivers are bad drivers regardless if they spent 10 K or 300 k but in there defense the only way they can get better is if they get more laps and some sound advice.

It was really great seeing your car out there yesterday, and also, the other 2 86's that were out there with you having fun all day. Lap after lap without issue=lots of fun

Your car looked the nicest of the 3, without a doubt though

I can't say I have money, I had to take out a huge loan to afford an 86 and make sacrifices in my day to day living. The 86 became my life, my ex even ditched me because she knew I would care more about the car than her, she was right. The car was constantly polished, cleaned and cared for.

I can't say I am a professional, but according to people who have driven with me apparently I have some skill. I have done track days, auto crosses and gymkhanas, paddock blasts, driver training courses and have over 150,000km of driving experience. Heck I even tried drifting at the Taupo Festival of Fun day and with only 1 spin the whole day, I can't say I did too badly.

Apparently none of this was good enough on Sunday when my 86 went backwards off the road, flipped a few times and then went down a 8m cliff to land on the roof. The sad thing is, I wasn't even trying to go fast or drift or anything stupid, if I was, then I would be able to accept what happened. I was just driving normally heading home.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. No injuries whatsoever. Passenger had a sore arm, but that was just due to side curtain airbag.

Will post more details later, the police are still investigating and I still didn't give my official statement. They were too busy that night.

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad to hear you and the passenger got out ok.

And as you alluded to, It doesnt matter how much experience any of us thinks we have, accidents are called accidents for a reason, and they can happen when we least expect it.

Goodluck with insurance, and the police.
