External wastegates, Tried and Tested?

So im halfway through building a steam-pipe exhaust manifold for my 7mgte supra, and starting to look into wastegates and fitment

basically looking into, brands and sizing's, is there brands to stay away from, cheap Chinese junk? or do i just go with a Tial and not have problems?

Sizings also a question, currently the car has a custom intake manifold, 60-Trim intake with t04 exhaust turbonetics turbo, but still stock electronics, eventually will have a AEM, and start cranking boost, so im wondering if 38mm will be ok? or 44mm,

Setup is a street car that i take to the track regularly

Also anyone had any experience with tial BOVs or similar that have the springs in them so they don't open till the boost is above the spring pressure, so at low rpms and boost the bovs not always venting when you come off the throttle and (for me personally) sounding like a real douche down the street?

have always run tial and never had any problems even in my drift car which has a hard life, haha,
def go with a 44mm for your sized setup and they come in the smaller size now too and watercooled if you want to run pipes to it for hardcore use,

on the bov i have a tial also and yes they dont vent at very low boost but no biggy in my opinion.

Tial or turbosmart for wastegates.
Bov - Tial is good but you have to set it up with the right spring. Boost doesnt open them, vacuum does.

Vented happily even from 1-2psi.

My personal preference for BOV's is Trust type R but it's pretty much a tie between that and a properly set up Tial.

Pretty much stay away from chinachinachina. Not worth trusting a $90 wastegate to not destroy your $$$$$ engine imo

dont touch a copy wastegate, been there, and was very lucky not to loose the whole engine when it failed.

Been using a turbosmart 38mm wastegate on my EVO for the last 6 years. Exellent quality and definitely will be using Turbosmart again when i upgrade.

Don't know why you'd even use a cheap knock off when the well known brands aren't actually that dear, and are well proven.

I don't understand why you would spend thousands building up an engine only to put a $60 wastegate on it. If that wastegate fails you stand to lose way more than the 2-300 it would have cost to just get a good wastegate in the first place. Each to their own though. I'm guilty of having used china stuff but I do my best not to skimp on a wastegate. Having a Chinese intercooler or manifold break on you is just a minor annoyance. Having a turbo or wastegate fail is a whole other story.

i would rather get genuine always but Chinese stuff isn't so bad as it is an exact copy of the real thing. My Tial copy has never over boosted or seized and doesn't leak

but these days it so hard to tell whats real and whats fake like on that website you can get hks cam gears 20 dollars greddy blow off valves
etc and they all have genuine looking boxes who knows the dudes on trademe etc calming to have genuine tial waste gates might just be importing them from that website and selling them as real

Thats why you buy all genuine parts, not from the cheapest vendor, but from the authorised agent.

The Valve in my tial copy wasn't true, and decided to bind up closed, nek minnit the boost guage the boost guage is at 22-25psi and a rod is getting a bend on.

I have had a couple of tial copy BOV's.

One fell apart and let part of it i to the intake,

and another I had was so badly made that the valve would randomly stick open, or closed, or wherever.
Although that one I only bought to get the spring out of.

I found the genuine tial BOV's have springs in them that were way to hard from my liking, so made my own and have never had an issue.

Never tried a non genuine wastegate, and probably wont.

Maybe for street use a chinese one will be fine, its never going to see the temps like you see at the race track

Thanks for the inputs guys, i certainly don't want a cheap knock off but these days it really is impossible to tell, until the seat jams up and boost goes through the roof

I am looking into a 44mm Tial with v-band clamps, and like mentioned going to go through the authorized routes, i really don't want to pay top dollar for a chinese copy off trademe or something, ive been bitten buying a flywheel clutch combo, now makes a very nice wall hanger

nzpreformance the tial authorized sellers? who are the others? google just brings up all those copys on aliexpress! anyone out there got any hookups?
