ae86 value

Postby jbod » Tue Aug 06, 2013 10:48 pm

I was browsing trademe and curious to know
There's a dealer with a ae86 for 21k with 200xxxks and a private sale one for 17k nz new 160ks.. both nice

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 361374.htm

Why is this worth only 12.5 and has been on trademe for so long??
I see its pop up headlights and a trueno not a levin, doesn't look a bad car

So why is it worth so much less? I don't know much about the ae86, simply curious

They are all only worth what a willing buyer will pay, seems like so far all 3 are worth nothing...

Yea, the blue one has been on for some time. But the 12.5k one has had 30,000 views must have been on for a year .. Is one more desirable than the other?

The key difference is one owner is less keen to sell/more dreamer spec.

Asking prices on trademe often have little relevance to anything (many people are happy to list a car they don't really intend to sell for a silly price on the off chance some idiot might pay it).

Sometimes people see several cars similar to there's with 'wishful thinking' prices and assume that is what they are worth.

If you look at prices on a car yard it's a safe bet the real value (what most people are willing to pay) is within 10% of the asking.
On trademe this rule does not apply.

The market is small, very small. People can ask what they like really. The fairly priced ones would not sit around for long at all, they'd be listed and sold within the first listing i'd say. Dreamers gonna dream. They have their place, but the majority of people will consider what else they can get for that money, and buy elsewhere. A small number want them for what they are, they are the small market.

they are all cockhead dreamers taking up valuable internet space. Nobody in their right mind should be paying more than 10k for a 100%mint AE86 IMO.

Ihad mine on TM 3.5 years ago for 7k and it sold essentially straight away, while all the others thatwere listed at 10k + sat there........

Douches...

The only true and accurate measure of value on Trademe is $1 reserve auctions. Some cool cars go for surprisingly low amounts.

It's not worth any less at all, just that the other ones are way overpriced.

The AE86 value question seems to come up fairly often, the reality is people who want these cars are not going to pay big money for them.

Oh I see wow haha what dreamers. The dealer wanting 21..... Wow... Haha. I wouldn't mind one. Good to know that any more than 10 is silly. Why's the ae86 better than the 85? Better running gear?

Value is in the eye of the beholder :)

This question indicates that you have no real understanding of
what an AE86 is, or why some "old cars" fetch more money than
their apparent worth. Do some research on any old "cult" car such
as the BDA Escort, XU1 Torana, GTHO Falcon or 327 Monaro, to
name just a few local cars.

Sure, they are just old Holdens or Fords, but they were used in
motorsports with considerable success. The AE86 had an enviable
record in racing and rallying at the highest level for many years.
It has its own series for Group N in Japan, multiple dedicated web
sites for enthusiasts, and is one of the most accessible RWD cars
for modifying and having fun at modest cost.

So educate yourself, and then give the finger to all the so-called
motorsports enthusiasts who only see an old Corolla

Good observation.. Yes i dont know much about them that is why i have asked. To say i have no understanding of why certain older cars fetch more than others is talking out your arse  . I am asking whats the main differences/reasons for their value. Not something i have looked into much all i really know is tey are the desirable model

Cheers jeremy

ae85 was the carbied low performance motor version, with lower spec everything.. ae86 was the 4age powered version.

Once you swap the ae86 running gear into and ae85 shell there is no difference expect chassis number.

Fixed. Nothing modest about the cost of them now

I see! Well understandably the genuine article is going to hold the greater value. The blue one on trademe looks an exceptional example. However 17k....... Ehhh

Yeah 86 will hold better value, but i've yet to buy a car with resale price in mind. Cars = money pit  I'd probably go 85 as if I was buying one, it would be a weekend car. So modifications would be on the cards.

No, AE86 is the 1600cc 4A version. Aussie spec shitty carby 4A-C powered version is still an AE86. Worth a lot less than a proper 4A-GE version though.

And to think I bough my genuine unmodified AE86 for $1800 beacause the front pads were worn out.
I think i got $3500 when i sold it.

That was a few years ago now, but shows how far the value has risen.

drifting happened and all of a sudden the "drift cars" skyrocketed in price.
Skyline GTS-t's used to be a cheap car, now you'd be lucky (or unlucky) to get a GXi for that money.
