2jzge and 1jzgte torque converter compatibility

Postby steroidcontaskie » Fri Sep 27, 2013 10:16 pm

Hi all

So I have this leaking front seal on my auto gearbox. One of my friends suggested that it might be the torque converter not fitting properly.

The torque converter I put on was from a 1jzgte auto going onto a 2jzge auto. It seemed to fit correctly, does anyone know for sure that the converters are compatible?

Also, any suggestion on where to get a torque converter rebuilt in auckland?

Cheers Edward

the 1jzgte torque convertor will NOT fit the 2JZGTE trans(i know yours is a 2jzge). the splines on the front of the gearbox are different lengths.
Are you experienced in putting a torque convertor in? ie did you get the 3 distinct stages as you slid it on? (one spline, two spline, oil pump drive)
There is a chance things are not right.

how did you bolt the convertor to flywheel, as the 2jzgte bolt spacing is ever so slightly different to the 1jz stuff?

I am certain I got the engagement of the torque converter correct, already stuffed that up once before and put the converter through the pump.

The actual 1jzgte and 2jzge gearboxes look the same, the splines coming out of the gearboxes are the same. So I think the torque converters are compatible. But I just don't know 100% and I don't think I can handle another gearbox swap, this is already like time number 6.

Anyway, I took the box out today and will have a look at it this week. Will take both my original (and slightly damaged from putting it through the pump) and the after market 1jz one to a trans shop and get them to have a look at them.

Cheers

Dude,

Probably time to give up on the mystery "high stall" TC and just fit the original TC.

You will be able to make it fit again quite easily and at least you know it matched up to that box.

Good work pulling the box out again, how fast can you do that now?

The actual box only a couple of hours, but now that I have drive shaft loops the driveshaft is a real pain to get out... They will need some gypsy cutting and welding I think.

I will get the torque converters looked at, see what a professional thinks

Update.

So I got both my original 2jzge and the 1jzgte aftermarket converters taken apart and they have the same splines and same dimensions.

Neither really had much wear and the aftermarket 1jzgte one is hi-stall and had already be strengthened. Going to get any parts that look dodge rebuilt while it is apart.

Cheers
