3SGTE issues

Postby headshotnz » Sat Oct 19, 2013 12:54 pm

Hi guys, What ideas do we have?

Symptoms: Vacuum gauge reading -18.5 (3sgte's idle @ -20(Generally))
Choppy idle, quite possibly missing.

Last week I noticed straight away as I pulled up my driveway that the vacuum was higher than normal, so i took it for another quick run. Max boost was 6psi and was very slow to get there.

I had a quick check for vacuum leaks, couldn't find any thing, parked her up for the week.

Today I went back out, turned her on, once warm same problems. fiddled around, felt and listened for vacuum leaks.Nothing. Tightened all air hoses. Nothing. Took her for a drive, would now boost over 6 psi, but was very slow to get there and would start missing at 5k revs.

In the interim I tried changing the BOV in case it was leaking. No change.

I might add 2000kms (at a maximum) I changed the Spark plugs and leads for new genuine parts.

Since the head/headgaket/cambelt/putting a ct26 back on job(same time as leads and plugs). It has been running great untill now.

Ideas????

Ta

James

Do a boost leak test to eliminate vac leaks then Do a leak down test. Could have hit a valve and it has progressively burnt out from not seating right.

No more than a well maintained 200+km turbo car will smoke.

Hmm its worth a check. I'm also wondering if it has skipped a tooth on the cambelt.

Some one should just buy it from me. job done.

When did it turn Matte black? My offer would probably be too low and I wouldn't be allowed to buy another one, quite keen on a turbo engine for my current SW though.
