I like it, and finally it gets a 6 speed transmission but it looks a little too subtle and legacy-ish

What do you guys think?

Have to say at least the interior looks decent for once

Too subtle and too legacyish and its slower too. Two of my mates own the current model wrx and they both think the new one is a downgrade.

Expect Japanese version to have ~280hp, 268hp is USA variant.

I do not like the sedans, hoping that the hatchback looks better.

Although I also hope STI will be completely different (as there were rumours that it will get its own chassis)....

Way to generic. Seems manufacturers have lost the balls to make anything unique or even iconic to them these days :(

The latest mazda 6's look quite mazda compared to most things.

Pictures really don't do justice to how "snouty" the front end is. Kinda reminds me of a 12a rx3 nose.

Why do all the modern 'performance' model have so many exhaust tips.

I can handle a pair of tips on one muffler, or 1 tip per muffler (one on each side say).

But 4... it's only a 4cyl motor FFS.

They are not making a hatchback this time unfortunately.

Also I don't know how they could go so wrong, I mean the blue shots are the development car shown at car shows about 6 months ago and I thought it looked great, mean, low, aggressive, purposeful.

How and why would they dull it down so much. I mean seriously for comparison sake the last pic I have posted is a 2007 legacy, they look so similar it is laughable, but compare that to the blue concept.... DAM! that is a car I would own, it has a real style of its own even if the back end is perhaps a tad BRZ-ish

Which will be very stupid from them. Perhaps they are not releasing hatchback in USA? Since GRB hatchback is more popular in Japan than sedan.

I certainly will not be buying a sedan.

The concept looks sooo good. The production model not so much.

It's clear what's changed at the back, but the front is only subtly different. Small corner front lip, change of rake angle on the sides of the lower bumper...

I don't think the photographer of the red car has shown off any of it's good angles. The focal length of the lens has hidden the bulging front guards, you can't see the layout of the bonnet from the 3/4 shot etc.

First red one reminds me of a Prius crossed with a Taurus. And the 3rd shot of the blue one looks like a stretched 206CC. Something about how the back window comes down.

The Blue ones back end reminds me of the last of the Celicas, ZZT230. Maybe we will get a Toyota version with Celica badge?
And then add 3SGTE to complete 'Awesome' mode.

You would seriously want a 3sgte over an ej20?, man I wouldn't

3sgte would get owned by anything modern.
Hell, I got dragged off at the lights by a turbo diesel mondeo recently
Granted I was only running actuator pressure (8psi) and the fords turbo sounded quite a bit louder than what they should do (guessing raised boost?)
But why stick a 25 year old engine in a new car?

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

I just assumed that given how often subies get stolen he wanted to fit a second immobilser. :)

Those things are hella torquey, I drive them at work, they go quick from factory. Get one with a duel clutch trans and they are quite fun to drive.

Lost my shit...

Re: wrx. I like it. If the STI has sub 300hp it better have loads of standard equipment.

Also, do they still use ej20s? That's old as shit...

Yeah got one of those in the driveway too. Love the twin clutch.
The one that got me was loading the engine on the brakes before e lights changed, so he was just gone. Diesel on full boost is an interesting sound lol

Yeah they still do but if you compare the way the engine is controlled in terms of valve timing and ignition etc etc then comparing a 93wrx engine to a modern sti is chalk and cheese. The block is still fairly similar but even then many changes have been made for added strength, cooling, oil channels etc

Buyers will have a choice of either a six-speed manual transmission (!!) with carbon synchronizers on first and second gears for added durability, or a revised CVT that can also emulate either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed ‘box. The CVT also includes paddle-shifters, naturally. Here’s one particularly interesting side-note: only the CVT models get SI-DRIVE.

Subaru says this new model is a major step for the line, and to back that up they’ve equipped it with a Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) all-wheel drive system. This uses a planetary gear-type center differential and an electronically controlled hydraulic transfer clutch to control front-and-back power distribution. Under most conditions the system is rear-bias (55%) to lend a RWD sportscar feel. Power transfers based on driving conditions and input from the steering wheel angle, yaw and lateral g-forces, much like the system currently used on the STI… although, here’s the kicker, this fancy AWD system will only be standard with the CVT transmission.

Should you select the 6-speed manual, you get the good ‘ol viscous differential with a straight-up 50:50 split. Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) is included, however, to assist with slippery conditions and to transfer more power to the wheels with the best traction. Still, doesn’t sound nearly as fancy as the VTD setup.
