Chipping/changing japanese displays

Postby splitbusboy » Sun Nov 24, 2013 9:07 am

Looking at a Jap import Li Avensis wagon, to replace my NZ new (UK built/assembled) GX Avensis dropped on 18" DTM's.

Problem is, the display sux, it's all Japanese characters, impossible to figure out and looks shit, the reversing camera screen/sat nav also is impossible to look at.

Is there anyone in NZ that can chip/mod these systems to be English, Avensis's are built/assembled in the UK then sent to Japan/NZ wherever so I would assume they are able to be defaulted back to English???

Any leads or info greatly appreciated! Cheers.

What model stereo do you have? I looked into languages for one I have and it appears to be Japanese only. English would make the unit amazing, as it has a hard drive and all sorts of bells and whistles. Even without being able to read it though i've copied music on to it and tuned in all the local radio stations. All we needed really.

Start to learn Japanese. I previously had tried to convert a jap satnav to english by ripping some software upgrade from a strange russian website... yeah it didn't work, internet tells me it's possible for certain models though.

Currently have a Mark Levinson system with crazy combined headunit. HDD, DVD, Satnav, aircon, bluetooth, G musics, servicing guide, greeting music etc.

You start to remember pretty quick where certain key items are, just like Mr Bling I've managed to work my way though it, deleted hours of easy listening Japanese tunes off the HDD to make way for my own stuff.

Priced up a NZ new replacement, pretty up there so not an option.
