Throttle vs boost.

Postby steroidcontaskie » Mon Dec 23, 2013 11:51 pm

Hi all,

limbo and I have been playing cars and doing a bit of test driving / logging on my soarer that is only tuned up to 4000rpm (trans let go after that on the dyno). A couple of question popped up during the test run.

So, the logs say I am getting 4psi at 3500rpm at around 50% throttle, and I was wondering will the turbo spool up much faster when I give the car 100% throttle? More specifically, is there anyway to figure out about when I would get 9 psi with 100% throttle?

Cheers Edward.

Turbo needs exhaust gas to spool, in turn you need fuel to create the gases,
So yes 100% throttle will see much faster spool

Not quite true. Turbo spool works on engine load, not throttle position. As with no load, 100% throttle will see 1-2psi yet 100% load with 10-20% throttle will easily generate full boost.
