Unbolting front turbo from 1JZ

Postby drift-monkey » Fri Jan 10, 2014 5:42 pm

Just a quick question - anyone have any secret tricks on how to get the bottom manifold bolt off to get the front turbo off a JZZ30 1JZ? Proving to be pretty damn difficult..

two 14mm ring spanners hooked together or a long 14mm ring spanner if you have 1 and can get it in there, ive done it both methods, but yea c**t of a spot to get to. also just removing the front turbo sounds like a mission just take them both off

Can't get in there. I would have thought taking whole manifold off would be even worse. I'm currently here still trying to get the compressor housing off first so I can get access to the last bolt that needs unbolting but geezus. Toyota has played one cruel joke here aye. How hard is it to get whole manifold off out of 10?

you dont take the whole manifold off, i unbolt it from where the two small manifolds meet the turbos, 3 bolts on each turbo, i have done it in place 2 or 3 times now so it can be done, but yea like i said its a right pain in the ass.
i disconnect the oil feeds and drains, water feeds and drains and remove both turbos as 1 big unit.

$&#$% looking at that is beautiful, I'm following http://www.thepointnet.com/Lenticular/Turbo/

This guide, not sure if you agree that it's the best or easiest way but it's what everyone keep on linking and all I've found on google so..

The third bottom bolt for the first turbo is insane to get out, AND the dump pipe is near impossible to get off too.. jeezus.

ended up taking compressor housing off the front one, taking the centre out, replacing centre with a good one, reassembling from there. Nearly done - First time doing this and its taken me from 3pm-1am last night and from 12pm to 3pm right now. I guesstimate about... 2hours left and it'll be ready for daily duties again.. Can't wait.
