SR20DE s14 Silvia

Postby headshotnz » Mon Jan 13, 2014 7:06 pm

Hi guys, Not a Toyota I know. I am sure some one has knowledge of these though.

Long story short, a friends mums car, has developed a rather loud bottom end knock over night.

In search of a cheap solution, I was wondering if any one knew if all SR20DE's can bolt in to these?

The S14 in question is a automatic version (Assume this makes no difference however)

There is a few cheap FWD variants on Trademe that are local.

One would assume that with our donor broken engine it would be a relatively straight forward bolt in job?

Thoughts/comments/experience sharing, would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Has to be rwd. With VCT.
So S14/S15 engine. From memory there are small wiring/electrical differences between S14 and S14A/S15 engines too. So if you want it to be 100% plug and play, has to be the same generation of S14 as what you have. Nissan does silly things like change plugs/wiring between years too.

FWD is all kinds of wrong. Can be made to work but will make you hate life/cost more than the difference in price between that and one that just fits.

Motor difference between early and facelift cars two.

Make sure engine is $&#$% first

If early one had bad problem with blocked oil feed tubes to cams, wearing cams out. Caused by lack of serving.

Then people say it doesn't go? Easy fix than swapping motors

Also if haven't removed autos from engines before, just do quick research on it.trap for young players

Aren't the blocks between RWD and FWD SR20s different? The engine mount bolt holes are not in the same place?

Yeah they're different. RWD has a fan where one of the fwd mounts go. And you can't bolt a rwd gearbox to the fwd block. Pretty sure water/oil passages between RWD head and fwd block don't line up and you can't use the fwd head in a RWD car because the water outlets are wrong, manifolds are wrong and there's a dizzy where the firewall should be. And fwd never came with VCT.

As above. Only get a fwd SR if you want to hate your life.

buy a s14/s15 sr20de motor it will ALL bolt up fine, i swapped my blown s14 de motor with a newer s15 de one in the mrs daily s14 just 2 weeks ago and everything plugs in. incase for some reason some of the plugs are different take the old parts of your motor, alternator or whatever doesnt plug in but everything has worked with the ones ive done, and def do not get a FWD completely different in many ways.

you said its auto.. be a little more tricky to get the motor/box assembly out as the auto is soo much bigger than a manual box but still not too hard.
